Disc Brakes?

What's your feeling on disc brakes on trikes?
All round, just the front, just the back?????

I've got a front disk brake on my Cobra. Works well, but needs the fluid topping up every couple of weeks. Bit of a pain!

Trikes typically have brakes on the front only. Disks on the front are fine, disks on the backs ala GT450 are super-fine

I agree 100% with you Morph. Disc brakes on all 3-wheels = great option. Just for interest sake, do you people know of someone that can fit disc brakes on a trike??? Someone gooooooood!!!!!!! Cheers skin

I prefer drum brakes . I have three drum brakes on my Trike . A Trike only has to stop once after landing and heat build-up does not happen. Disc brakes were developed in the racing industry the calipers catch grass etc. Three drum brakes cable operated work very well. The braking can then be adjusted such that the back wheels are dominant You do not want a front brake to lock-up on wet grass. This is easily done with cable adjustment. Vliegvark only has backbrakes and the other DTA's flying have hydraulic back brakes discs DTA has gone back to drums with cables. I hope this gives some light on the topic.

Have disk brakes on the rear of my Pegasus - Breaking force is direct and really applied evenly - easy to control even when you need to stop in a hurry . Short field performance is great, especially when you intentionally come in a little hot. I would recommend them.

I'm not too concerned about rear brakes on the Aquilla, but would like to hear of a simple means to stop the rear wheels rotating straight after take-off. Kite wheels never stay balanced, after standing for two weeks, there is a flat spot, etc. and you inevitably end up with a resonant wobble that shakes the instrument pod violently at times. Any ideas?

You cannot fit any additional gizzmo's on the Delta Jet - you'll end up exceeding the weight limit. Besides...ons moet jou bietjie kan gas gee op die comps...

I wish I had a plan for the rotating wheels after takeoff too. Sometimes I just want to lean out and touch wheels to stop their nonsense, but arms not long enough. Thought about a stick attached to trike but never gotten that far.
Looks like we will have to wait for some clever person, or live with it....

I agree, thats why I live with the wobble. Only lasts for about 1/2 circuit, so its best not to touch and go, just low fly past. Whats a wobble for a few minutes compared to a couple of peaceful hours in the sky.

So true, Erika, I also rather do low passes than touches. The Aquilla pod tends to crack at the base quite easily. Some days the wobble is less severe. I have tried static off the trike balancing like you do with bike wheels, but the results were shortlived. Maybe someday I'll become clever and think of something that works and then I'll pm you with the solution and tell nobody else

Sounds like a plan. I will wait in anticipation. Another option is hold onto the pod to stop it from shaking. One is usually busy checking things and traffic etc on take off so this is also not the best bet. Will keep thinking and when a brainwave comes, will let you know too.

I am having the same frustration on my Aquilla, after take off my my compass spin faster than the prop because of all the vibration from the rear wheels.

Is this only Aquilla related or are we the only "Moan gatte"?

Looks to me like it is Aquilla related Houtlepel I fly an Aerotrike and no problems there...
