May I suggest that we start a database of Western Cape airstrips to augment those already known here. Also see my posts under ZU-DVE Log

Type, Name, Coordinates, Length, Runways, Description & Info

Let me know which is the most commonly used file system. I use a Garmin III and have Mapsource. I see Mapsource can save in different formats

I think Altona is 09 and 27 based on the magnetic tracks I have from landing there

Another one Gert, On your file you have Thesis. This runway is closed, they have dug trenches across it to stop planes landing there

But Gert what is a gdb file?

A GDB file is normally a Borland Interbase database. However I've downloaded it too and the format does not look anything like an interbase file

The gdb file is the lastest Mapsource file version. If you have a Garmin GPS just go to http://www.garmin.com and download the latest version of mapsource and also check your GPS software version for latest updates.

I went onto the Garmin website and downloaded the Mapsource update. I also downloaded Gert’s database and all is working fine, it looks great !. I will clean up my database and will post it soon. By the way Gert, I see on your track log that you have put in "UTC -2", we are UTC+2, 2hrs ahead of Grenwich.

Incidentally, does the ”.gdb” file extension mean “Garmin DataBase” ?? Anyway, all my Mapsource files are saved as .gdb files.

Those who have mentioned that they cannot access the file perhaps don’t have the Mapsource software.
