Wonder if Government don't wanna subsidise some of us to find a new place to stay. It can benefit both sides.

Spain, Oz, Canada, Ireland (My original home), Azerbaijan....in the modern world, the destination is pretty much irrelevent.

The primary considerations of my wife and I are the various opportunities to expatriate and bed-down net-worth with a harder currency.

Therafter we'd be quite keen to live here for the rest of our lives and hedge our bets with some of the more dubious perspectives the local peasantry.

Living in the high-density 'first world' is no 'easier' than it is here..... of course, it is however, quite a bit safer, and these are the chances some of us elect to take.

The wife and I would probably go to Aus, and maybe eventually end up in NZ.

My first priority was to see whether they have microlighting there, which they have. Secondly we we believe we will be able to live a better quality life there and should we be blessed with children someday, have them grow up in a less violent society. We do realise that we will have to sacrafice our current liefstyle though.

As many of my friends will tell you - I am probably the last person anybody would have thought would want to emigrate to Oz. I was offered a job over here two years ago and my wife and I decided that it was too good an opportunity to miss even if it was just for four years. We have since decided to stay for good and expect to get our permanent residence in May. There were many reasons for this decision but in the end it was a very easy one to take. We feel very much at home here and for the first time in my life I feel truly free. We are now working on getting the rest of the family over here as well - also not as difficult as some people make out. If there is a will there is a way.

I truly hope SA makes it - it would be a real waste if it doesn't. Unfortunately there is just too much uncertainty around where the country is heading at the moment and being a risk adverse type, I would rather invest our future in a more safe and secure environment. This is my perception of course and I realise people will disagree with me on my views but I have always gone with my gut feel - it hasn't let me down yet.

P.S. Tasmania IS part of Australia - even if they all have two heads down there and are married to their sisters........

I am 100% sure that your quality of life is so much better in either of the two countries.
What I meant by lifestyle change is that for the first couple of years I would need to accept that I won't be driving my BMW anymore, I probably will have a smaller house than I have now. All of this doesn't matter though because, like you said, I will be free and I will feel safe, makes it worth while.

I had an opportunity to move to NZ a few years ago. I was offered a job by a former colleague in the same field I am in now. I met all the criteria, had more the required number of points. I decided to stay. I have no regrets. I am in South Africa because I choose to be here.

Well said Griffin...not that I have anything against people that emigrate but I am a South African (although born in the UK but I love this place) and intend to stay until the bitter end. I have faith that the country will turn around, although it is hard to maintain this faith admitidley (sp?)

Me. I would find it very difficult to leave this continent, so I would therefore say Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia in that order and Zim only on condition that the monkey is gone. I think there will be huge opportunities in Zim once it starts rebuilding.

Just want to add my 2c here...

Slysi, I agree with you 100%, but I wonder if I'd feel the same when/if something had to happen to me or my immediate family. Luckily nothing's happened sofar (Touch wood). I'm also here 'til the end, but may choose to head to the coast. You Cato guys better make space!

Tracer, just something on your comment "I won't be driving my BMW anymore". I did my 2 year stint in the UK about 4 years ago. It's amazing to see how level the status is in the UK. When you sit on the tube, people sitting all around you, you can't tell if the oke next to you is a banker, street sweeper, plumber, or whatever. It's nice to know that nobody judges you for your status, 'cause it's unknown to everyone.
I understand that NZ and Oz is the same. Nobody cares what car you drive. Whereas here, you get cursed off the road if you drive a pre '95 car or anything slower than a Merc.

On that note, thanks to all the GT450 okes for staying on our level.
