Oil Injection for 582

I have a new blue top 582 fitted to my recently built Challenger.The engine hangs upside down . It was fitted with an Oil Injection unit. The unit was installed correctly and all lines and marks were lined up correctly. The unit however delivered way to much oil, as much as 1,25 litre per 25 litres of fuel.

After discusions with Gideon Niemann the injection unit was replaced with a new one kindly supplied by Aviation Engines. The situation remained unchanged however. Gideon has removed the unit in the meantime to enable me to complete the hours for the proving flights on the Challenger, using pre-mix.

The aircraft now has 39 hours on the Hobbs and I would like to re-install the oil injection unit again. I would appreciate advice and comments on how to rectify the problem that I am experiencing.

And please the discussion is not about the pro's and cons of oil injection and pre-mix :wink: :roll:

I do seem to recall there was an idiosyncrasy regarding the inverted installation. I picked this up off the web

Installation criteria
The tank should be placed so that its outlet is always higher than the pump under any flying attitude, so that the pump is always gravity-fed
The oil line and oil filter have to match Rotax standards
A few precautions have to be taken during the first run: It is important to bleed the system to free any air bubbles; the oil injection lever cable has to be adjusted so that the marks on the lever and pump align at idle; the first tank should contain 100:1 premix to ensure that the engine will receive adequate lubrication while any last air bubbles go through

As far as pro's and cons are concerned

My opinion is that technically oil injection has stood the test of time, is reliable and efficient and works well. If you have it use it.

I personally never had one nor felt the need to install it as premixing was never a schlep to me.

As a previous Challenger owner I have to ask you : Are you aware of anyone succesfully mounting a fourstroke motor to a Challenger?

Yes, HKS four stoke, 65 hp I think.

You won't be able to install a 912 due to it's weight and too much power for the Challenger
