What Intercom??

Postby RudiGreyling » Tue Nov 13, 2007 8:55 am

Hi Guys,

Who knows the intercom below (or have the manufacturers telephone number?) I have a coupe of queries???
Image

I got this intercom with the purchase of my plane 2nd hand, no manufacturers markings.

I need to know what the 2 little BLACK Variable Resistors adjust.

My Transmitting Radio Comms through the intercom is crystal Clear but very Soft to other Pilots listening in on the radio 5 & 3 out 5 respectively. The Reception is perfect on my side.

If I bypass the intercom and use the Icom IC-A3 Radio's built-in Speaker/Mic (i.e press and speak into the handheld) the Volume is much better for receiving pilots 5 & 5 out 5.

Hence I guess the output "GAIN" needs to be adjusted on the intercom.

Any ideas and help appreciated.

Failing that, I might be in the market for a NEW intercom!
Something with Audio Out and Audio In, so I can listen to my IPOD, and Record our Radio Comms on the video camera. What is available and GOOD on the TRIKE market nowadays that you guys can recommend?

Kind Regards
Rudi

Hi Rudi,

I have looked at both the Air Magic and Buzzcom systems. In my humble opinion, the Air Magic system doesn't look as solid and hardy as the Buzzcom one. Especially concerning the plugs. I have also heard that the support from Buzzcom is much better.

Hi.

the system in the photo is a 'speak-eeze'.

Call Keith on 083 415 1409.

Based in Johannesburg.

I have owned 3 of these identical units, and 1 of the upgrade, which is a built in powered by the aircraft ones. Never had a days trouble from them.

Regards.

Hi Rudi,

I currently have the AirMagic system on my plane and I have received excellent service from them (Zulu1 on this forum).

I also questioned the cable plugs but I have had no bad connections so far and I haven't had to solder any wires in ages (I got a bit of practice on my old Buzzcom unit but that might have been because it went for a dip in the Indian ocean  )

had buzcom, now using airmagic - good quality - plugs dont give any troubles at all - much better than the GA headset's stereo plaugs as they do not rust, pull out ect.and if you need to repair it - any computer shop will be able to assist. i use my ipod every time i fly and the sound quality is very good. used in conjuction with the v-rabit aerial - there is no equivalent IMHO :!: The aftersales service is also very good - just remeber that if you are not in kzn, it might take a day or three for the goods to be delivered via courier.

just my 2c

I have done over 350 hours with the airmagic in an XT912 and mostly with students and introductory flights. The problem I have had is that I have used two sets of batteries in that time :D :D

Rudi
IMHO...contact ZULI1 and get and Airmagic. You will not be sorry.
Had endless hassles with my Buzzcom, which the manufacturers could nto resolve.
