Petit runway...

Hi guys

Landed there yesterday and lost some tooth fillings due to the rattling on the bumpy runway hehe

Has the runway always been in this generally poor condition or you perhaps know if the owners plan on improving it a bit at some stage?

Im sure training aeries must take a knock doing circuits and (excuse the pun) BUMPS there

Not complaining would just like to know as its useful to fly there at times to visit Jenya, Andre etc

Hi Ant,

The runway isn't too bad, but the taxiway is rough. [and looooong for a trike]
I didn't hear of any plans to improve it before I left there.

Perfectly usable though.

Well, actually the runway is a problem, I fly a fixed wing microlight and rattled my spats to the point that I had to remove them. As a rule I don't do touch and go's any more. The field is just to rough and tax the aircraft undercarriage to much.

A lot of the pilots at the field is unhappy with the condition.

My son in gonna start his microlight license now and I am considering moving to another field as the continuous touch and go's is not good with a field that rough.

Hi yes the runway is in very rough condition but I guess it comes down to economic viability for the owner(s)?

Is there a quick/cheap way to fix the runway or would it cost lost of $$$?

I think that the answer is not in cheap and quick but long term results. To be fair the runway was inherited in a bad condition I think. The previous owners did not spend money to do what should be done to runways, I recon.

But now the problem stops with the current owner. If you rent out hangers, it is implied that the use of a runway goes with it. When you buy an airfield the runway is part of the continuous maintenance that must be done. The fact is that the runway can not just be left. It will deteriorate not improve on its own.

The economical viability for the owner is to make the airfield attractive for the current tenants to stay and to bring in more business by providing a quality service.

As to what is the best method to repair the runway..............there will be many opinions.
