The only thing that bother me about this theft if it was stolen for use in another aircraft, why did they not take the carbs too? In my opinion if it was stolen by an aviator to use in another aircraft he would most probably need the carbs too.
I bought a trike 16 years ago of which the brand new 503 Rotax was stolen at Tempe airport just before I bought it, that engine is still missing today.

Anything else you guys can through in to hasten the retreat. :?:

All the hard work put in by the Klip team has come to nought.

Stop all this Crap speculation.
OK, I get you now! May I suggest two things:

Firstly, why not thank the aviation community for their support of this incident on this site, which has been incredible!

Secondly, why not adopt a 'glass-half-full' approach and tell your current tenants what measures you are putting in place to mitigate the possible risk of local townships, etc. until such time as the perpetrator is caught?

Please understand that no-one means Klip bad by these suggestions. We really are only trying to assist in the only way we can . . . . which is communicating through this forum. Please accept my sincerest apologies if my posts have led you to believe otherwise.

(^^)
Point taken John.

I just felt that Klip was being made out to be the problem here. There isn't much more we can do for security unless we up the rent by a disproportionate amount to cover the cost of expensive security measures .
The tenants are battling to pay as it is. It is not just the management team but the tenants that have to play their part too. ie An alarm system or motion detectors that let you know via sms for example. I have both in mine.

I know of an airfield not far away were an entire aircraft went missing and is gone to this day. That was with all the bells and whistles alarm systems.

Yes there has been a tremendous amount of support for the affected parties and if you knew me you would understand that I am very grateful but I also feel that there has been a lot of fear mongering going on too. Two teanant have already left.
I just feel that one should look at the bigger picture here. We wouldn't have gotten this far without the glass half full attitude and we will continue to have that attitude.

As you know I have invited you to our Fly -in which we had to postpone so and I hope to see you there at the next date to be announced.

Please except my apologise too for my cripticed rant. I just become very protective when it concerns Klip.

You have nothing to apologies for ...
Obviously this will lead to an increase in hangerage as airfield owners will have to put measures in place to curb these incidents.
I shudder if I think of all the valuables locked up in hangers..and only due to lack of knowledge have we been spared this in the past....short before to long the word will be spread in the sjebeens with the result of more incidents..
Maar dit is in elk geval lekkerder in SA as in Kanada..!!!

Hey Falcon-Man! Just know that we are winged-buddies and nothing can come between that!

Apology accepted, although no apology needed! I can totally relate to how you must be feeling. I hanger miles away and am not directly affected in any way, but I am so incensed by this theft that I have felt like getting on the first plane home from the UK. To do what, I am not sure! But I am THAT mad!

We are standing with you guys, and hey, if you need to sound off or vent, please do so! We will remain understanding and supportive . . . allie'pad! (^^)

BTW: I have already called Joe from the UK. When I get back I am heading to Klip to meet him there and to understand this whole thing better . . . . not sure yet what it will achieve. I cannot rest until this dog is named!

This incident aside....considering the sad state of affairs seemingly everywhere these days  ....what do we do about this in the future. This could've happened at any field....do we wait for it to happen again, or has the time come for us on an airfield to airfield basis see how security can be beefed up?

There must be at least 40 trikes standing at ML....unfortunately also a very easy target  , how much would permanent security add to the cost of hangerage?

I'd rather pay an extra bit each month and have some "peice of mind" than get a call to say "The Beautiful Dawn" has been nationalised. :(

As Blue Max says...there is a lot of capital investment standing around with very little protecting what we hold so dear. :(
Surely only a matter of time before the word gets round that your R80k (or abouts) trike is worth a grand in scrap.... very worrying to me at least.

Good constructive post Alan, thank you. Agreed, and yes, we need to give some collective thought to this problem. It HAS to be stopped in its tracks! ##

I would feel GUTTED if the Beautiful Seductive Temptress was violated in this fashion!

I have taken it on board and will revert with some thoughts. (^^)

Freddie, my quote was not to degrade Klip Airfield what so ever. When the thread was leading more towards the possibility that the engines could have been stolen for scrap aluminium metal and someone commented that we need to start looking at shebeen, my first thought went towards the squatter camp, with no intention of degrading Klip. Initially, only the first pic was available on the forum hence why my initial thought was it has to be an aviator. When I saw the 2nd pic of Joe plane and the engine frame was attempted with a bolt cutter, my thought went with the possibility of a non aviator.

I know the types of aircraft in that particular hangar (my Cosmos was hangered there) which still bothers me why only Joe's plane and the 2nd 582 engine? I hope the person/s gets apprehended soon so we can all rest our minds and stop the speculation.

No offense was intended Freddie to Klip; I do know how "dear" Klip is to you!

Hi guys,
It is so important that we protect our sport..
I notice here in Canada there is absolutely no camaradie amongst the M lighters..
The forum they have is not active and I cant find a active trike pilot..
The theft at klip is destructive and we must heal what has been dammage..
It is so important that we dont lose faith and that we keep on trying..
Please dont let this affect the hangerage at klip..Plse guys support the Owner and dont go elsewhere..
I have seen in the past that a bad incident life might turn out to be a blessing in the future..
For both pilots and airfield owner...Dont give up..Die trying...!!!
Good luck wil come your way..

Stolen 582 Engines

Postby John Young » Fri Jul 20, 2012 2:19 pm

Guys,

Crime in SA will only be brought under control when the law gets serious. By examples -

1. Fireman (also medics here) responds to call as a person is hallucinating. Said person was smoking weed. Assaulted medic and two police officers that responded. 3 felonies - gets automatic 75 years in jail plus time for the weed.

2. Police chopper orbits my house for an hour. 8 police cars (including dog unit) and 2 police bikes in the area. Apprehended suspect for attempted unarmed low-value shop lifting. Suspect will get 25 years for felony (resisting arrest), 5 years for attempted unarmed robbery and 3 years for trespassing.

3. When we leave the air field for lunch, we leave the airfield gates open as well as all the well-stocked hangars. Nothing ever happens.

4. Over here, you respect the law and the law respects you.

I feel for you guys. Keep safe. :(

Regards
John

Stolen 582 Engines

Hi Leon,

I know Bud.

Who can respect polokers like this?

They took 2 hours to arrive for my car jacking where guns were used - absolutely pathetic :!:

John

I think I have said it before..
We only realize how tolarate we are with the conditions in SA once we are elsewhere.( Here in Canada or in America)
If only things can start changing for the better..
Maar ek dink nog ons is die beste land om in te bly....Ons moet maar net aanhou veg vir wat reg is..

This is painfull. I know how I would feel if walked into my hangar and saw a similar scene.
