I was over franshoek pass about an hour before you and got the 20mph tailwind... so I canceled the trip to Teewaterskloof because i did not fancy pushing back through a 20mph headwind!!

I must compliment you on your super thread here Gert! Great photos and story of your flying.

By the way we got a complaint from the Grippen pilot! He says you flew in front of him and the wake turbulence nearly knocked him out of the sky and he is now thinking of giving up flying as a career!

Won't you please donate a print of that shot for us to put up in the Club House at Morningstar.

From the WCMC website:
Circuit: All circuits are to the east of the N7. 02-Right and 20-Left. join overhead at 1200ft, decent the dead side. Circuit altitude is 800ft.

It seems the yellow gyrocopter may have been legit afterall?? I always try to cross at 1500 to 1800 feet but would like to ensure that the yellow gyrocopter (I know who it is) does it right next time.

Len,

Perhaps, but both Clueless and myself, joining at 1200ft, perceived him to be cutting, ie be lower than ourselves. Would not have been much of a detour to go around Morningstar, as we do when we fly towards a known airfield such as Wintervogel or Fisantekraal.

The published circuits are wrong. It has changed with "fixed" joining higher than 1200. So even at 1200 he was cutting through the "fixed" circuit. (confirm with anyone on committee the circuit heights).

Not that it mattered more than a mention, since we are VFR 360 degrees.

True Gert, and I agree with you. In the interest of continued good airmanship though I will have a word with who I think it may be. I hope he was broadcasting his intentions though?

See last weekend, yesterday and today's logs on www.zu-dve.com

Today I had one of those landings where I thought I am going to make a hole in the tarmac - see

especially second 34 - it really felt worse than it looks!
