Preferred Trike
Preferred Trike
Hello guys
Does anybody know which new trike is sold the most? I’m trying to establish the preferred trike in South Africa and why??
Lately their have been a lot of controversy over trike manufacturers in SA. I need to know the preferred undercarriage, preferred wing and whose after sale service is the best.
This may cause some controversy, but I would like it if somebody could share some light on this!
Please also choose a specific type at the poll!!

I cannot speak from experience but my instructor has a preference for the Aquilla 503 with a II wing.
This would be my first choice due to the proximity of Solo Wings should I require support or spares. Also, having trained on the Aquilla I have a tendancy to go with what I know at the moment. I may look at a 582 though.

I Started my Training on a Windlass and i enjoyed it, then did the rest of my training on a Raptor and
was very impressed, but since a 1 hour flight in a Blade i am sold pity the finances will not allow for me to get one but that is my vote definately

Hi Guys,
I fly an Aquilla 503, with an Aquilla 1 wing. I must say that I have had excellent support from Solowings and I have had no major problems with my aircraft to date.
They say that in most cases the student buys the same type of aircraft he/she trains on. This was the case with me as well.
Regards

Forgive me for saying this, but I think this topic is a bit silly. Most people do not have enough experience with different trike types to make an educated choice, and those who do know the various kind, know that there are pro's and cons to them all.
I have had instances where I have been very pleased with after-sale service off all the makes, and where I have been very angry/ dissapointed etc. with pretty much all of them.
I have flown a number of different trikes, and although I have a personal favourite aircraft from a handling point of view, another - exactly same model - handles so differently that I prefer a different type to that particular wing altogether. I don't think you will ever find two rag and tube aircraft which fly exactly the same - there are too many variables.
You can look at the South African aircraft register to see which is the most popular in South Africa (http://www.avdex.co.za/saregister) - I think it is probably the Aquilla / Windlass, but then they have been around for a long time, and many schools train on Aquillas, and therefore students buy them...

Hello FF
It seems to me your a bit upset today if I read your posts!! :D :D
Even though alot of people are only rated on about 2 different types of aircraft, there must be a reason why the majority of pilots fly one type of aircraft more than another one.
Aquilla is doing the best in the poll. That must mean something, isnt it?? Clearly somebody who don't have the financial means to lets say buy a Blade, buys an Aquilla for a specific reason.
Those pilots could have bought a Scout, but they bought an Aquilla! Now I can speak to the Aquilla owners to find their reason for purchasing this plane!
When I do a R180000-00 investment, I want to make an informed decision.
Please understand my intension before shooting the subject down! Thanks
