Magni M24
Yesterday saw the first Magni M24 to arrive at Tedderfield. I was particularly interested in seeing this machine as I have had some problems with my Xenon, being on of the first of the bunch here in SA.
The first thing one notices is it is must smaller than the Xenon and the side by side is accomplished by placing the passenger slightly rear of the pilot. Even with this configuration it would be quite intimate for normal SA males. The seats, forming the fuel tanks are fixed in place and cannot be adjusted. I did like the stick position and height which allows you to rest you arm comfortably on your thigh.
The craft is slightly tail heavy, and sits on its tail if no one is inside. This makes getting in and out of the craft a little tricky. Moving it around on the ground is "heavy" due to it been dragged on its tail.
It will be interesting to see how the 914 engine hands the temperatures. The engine is neatly housed in a very aerodynamic cowling, making the exterior lines very smooth. The cabin could also beome quite hot during summer flying and might need to have more vents than the two up front.
The interior finish is sparse and needs some work so as to match that good looking exterior.
However, its good to see another new model joining the fraternity her in Sa and I wish all new M24 owners the very best.
I would be interested to hear comments from the others there yestereday, particularly Flynote....

Re: Magni M24
Hi FlyingDoc,
Are they based at Tedderfield? Do you know who I can contact? I'll be visiting Gauteng in about 2 weeks, especially Tedderfield to spend some time with Flynote and the Xenon! And also to have a look at the M24.
Regards
Thinus

Re: Magni M24
I'll have one!
No guessing which one.. (If I was younger and unmarried I'd go for all 3)
I experienced a Magni M24 Orion first hand in the UK not too long ago.
My opinion of the M24 is all good. Fact that its based on the tried and tested M16 is a big plus to me.
Sparse in this case is good. No frills no fuss just reliable. Speed is good, seating is good (granted I am not a big oke) etc. Don't mess with a winning recipe.
If I dig really deep and look for something negative I would say that it would be nice to have some storage space somewhere. It has none.
I want one because I want one!

Hi THI
Butch is based in Krugersdorp.
The guy who imported the 1st M24 hangar at Tedderfield.
Speak to Flynote, he knows the guy. If you don't come right let me know and I can give you some numbers.

Re: Magni M24
THI,
The M24 is hangered right next door to Flynote's hanger, so I am sure there will be no problem.

Re: Magni M24
Well done Vic on owning the very first M24 in SA !
It was so nice to see the " look boys, I got a new toy " expression on his face !
Also very nice and very amusing it was, to see my good Tedderfield buddy, Leo , scrutinising the 24 from inside and out ( as his is next to arrive ) and then sneaking into my hangar to compare with the Xenon ! Every now and then he would exit my hangar with a big smile , return again after a few seconds and then exit with a concerned look on his face. What he was comparing , he did not say as our Leo is a boytjie that keeps his thoughts very much to himself ... like where will the gold price be next month ! ... ( for those that do not know, he deals in gold )
These side by sides are all very"lekka" They all have good and sometimes not so good features , depending on what it is you are looking for.
I think the 24 is lovely from the outside, she really is a looker but I personally would like a little bit more in the inside. All the Magnis I have owned came "kaalgat" You have to put in radios and all the other goodies you may want to add. The Xenon is not as pretty from the outside , to be quite honest.( beauty is in the eye of the beholder) Without the spats shes an ugly duckling but she comes fully equiped from the factory and you can't beat the inside for comfort, space and sheer luxury with carpets and leather. I like this in a car , why not my gyro ?
The 24 is based on the tried and tested M16 /M 22 and the cabin was designed around this model. The Xenon did what the Cirrus designers did. They started with the cabin, made it comfortable and then " made it fly ".
I am not crazy about the Xenon's doors. The 24's are much nicer. The Xenon factory is sending me the latest design doors that come out on the new models which I believe will be much better.
I'm not crazy about the 24 sitting on its tail, nosewheel in the air. I thought it will stand on it's 3 wheels as in the pics that were circulating but on closer inspection I noticed that they have a support underneath the tail wheel to keep it up for the pics .
Flying doc is correct about the lack of ventilation in the cabin. Jy gaan brand lat jy bars in die Somer ! But you know what ... to add vent holes would not be a big deal. The guys in Europe just don't understand Africa. We had endless problems with the first Xenons overheating and windows cracking due to the wrong material used. Was fine for Europe... not over here , sorrie.
It's great to have another side by side gyro in the good old RSA. Now we have RAF 2000 , Xenon and Magni m24. Each have something the other does not. Buyers now have a choice to suit their specific needs and this is great. If we all had the same taste , we would end up wanting to marry the same woman. Sallie werki. You haven't seen mine !!
Thinus, bel my as julle reg is om te kom loer ! ( not my wife, the Gyros !! )
