Re: Chalkie presentations @ Linder Auditorium 15 & 16 July
Press release from Karl Jensen
The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is hosting a presentation on Captain Chalkie Stobbart’s May 2009 amazing flight in a home built aircraft from Cape Town to London and back to beat a 70 year old record established by Alex Henshaw in 1939. This presentation is being arranged entirely without solicitation on Chalkie’s part. Our aim primarily is to spotlight Chalkie’s heroic achievement, aviating skills, physical and mental endurance in bringing the record to South Africa. Any monies raised will be used to help defray the enormous expenses Chalkie’s team incurred.
The show will take the form of an audio/visual history of Alex Henshaw’s flight in 1939 followed by Chalkie’s amazing life and the incredible flights that he has undertaken in all manner of aircraft. We will then have an explanation of the creation of the GP 4 Osprey by it’s builder Tony van den Heuvel, a talk by the plane’s test pilot followed by the intricate planning required for the record flight. Chalkie will describe in person what the flight entailed. We envisage the entire show to take about 2 hours.
The show will take place on Wednesday 15th July and Thursday 16th July at the Linder Auditorium on the Wits Campus in Parktown JHB. Starting time 19h30. Tickets are available from Computicket at only R60 per person - tickets can be collected from any Computicket outlet or Checkers store.
Paid-up AeroClub members qualify for a FREE ticket which must be collected from the AeroClub offices at Rand Airport during office hours
