South African Microlight Championships 2010

Postby D2O » Fri Aug 13, 2010 4:52 pm

Heard via the grapevine, and saw on MISASA website:
here --->http://www.misasa.co.za/?p=1811, as well as forum topics here --->viewtopic.php?f=21&t=13760
and here --->viewtopic.php?f=21&t=13750
I thought I'd create a topic dedicated to it.
So, who's going & who's competing?

The Champs are to be held at Heidelberg. Final arrangements for Heidelberg are underway. We will post final detail when available. The idea is to drum up support for Sunday the 12th – spot landing day – bring and braai or order a braai from ground crew if you fly in. Watch spot landings in the morning – braai for lunch – AGM then award trophies. Please contact Mervyn Reynolds 073-763-7510 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              073-763-7510      end_of_the_skype_highlighting begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              073-763-7510      end_of_the_skype_highlighting begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 073-763-7510 end_of_the_skype_highlighting to get the latest update or to offer suggestions/assistance. For those wishing to camp or sleep under the wing to herald in the spring – their are “new” ablution facilities and the club has a kitchen. Chairman – Andre Vorster 083 654 2793 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 083 654 2793 end_of_the_skype_highlighting

1. You can order a braai pack at R40 by going to http://www.microlighters.co.za and place your order there or you can respond to this post with a comment – leaving your name and cell number.

Post on here and agree a time to meet at field. Don;t give directions. If he finds the field he passes (^^) (^^) (^^) (^^)

PS
On serious note. I have nav'd a couple times for oukes and it more NB to get on with the bloke than if he is a hot shot nav, but there is a "problem" in air.... You will have some disagreements and you have a risk of being temp unsure of your posi. How you guys deal with these is more NB than his ability to read a map IMHO.... If you find a navi, do fly together a couple times before just to test the comms. "left at that tiettie, right around that kinkel and then fagalapa traight down the valley till you get to that kommetjie. If you are a soutie some of these terms may leave you thinking he is smoking zoll. Not lekka to find out in heat of competition that you don;t have a clue where to go based on hos prompts....    (been there     )

It is a fun thing, even if you are there to win.

I'm thinking of joining in on the fun - but have one question - what does the SA Microlight Championship entail?

So far I've picked up that there's nav's and spot landings to do? But what else? (**)

Talk2optimus,
I include a brief description of 4 tasks arranged by Mervyn.
It was for the Starters & Masters competition earlier this year.
There will be more tasks and possibly more complicated than the ones in this attached document.
Lots of fun.... hope to see you there.

Thank you very much to all who sent replies!! Much appreciated!

It really looks like a lot of fun although very challenging.

Even just to gain experience, I think I'll be entering this event!

Thanks once again - and really hope to meet most you at the championships.
