ALL PILOTS PLANNING TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FLY-IN ON 25 APRIL 2009 SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

1. Weather. Pilots are to familiarize themselves with the actual weather conditions prior to their departure (Phone FALW ATC beforehand on 022-706 2123 or 706 2259).

2. Reporting Points. Pilots are to ensure that they are familiar with the significant VFR reporting points within the FAR45 (as indicated on the airspace map).

3. Airfield Familiarity. Pilots are to study the airfield layout prior to their departure (see airfield map).

4. Routes. It is proposed that the following VFR routes are to be flown to Langebaanweg:

a) From Morningstar/FACT: Route coast wise to Yzerfontein (Contact Langebaan Approach no later
than this point).

b) From Fisantekraal/Stellenbosch: Route direct to Darling, then direct to Langebaanweg (Contact Langebaan Approach East abeam of Yzerfontein).

c) From Worcester/Robertson: Route direct to Malmesbury, then to Hopefield
(Contact Langebaanweg Approach on passing Somersveld Airfield).

d) From the North/North-east: Route direct to Aurora, then towards Veldrift
(Contact Langebaan Approach no later than Aurora).

e) From FASD: Route direct for a base leg of the main runway (02L/20R).

5. Spacing. Pilots are to arrange sufficient separation between themselves and other aircraft prior to entering the military airspace. It is suggested that they ensure a minimum of 500ft as vertical separation and 5 minutes time separation. Avoid flying in formation, unless if previously arranged.

6. Distance Reports. Pilots are to report distances as accurately as possible, preferably based on GPS , DME or overhead a significant geographical features.

7. Radio Failures. In the event of a radio failure, a pilot will be required to take the following actions:

a. Broadcast intentions blindly

b. Squawk 7600 (if transponder equipped).

c. Climb immediately to 2000ft

d. Route direct to FASD, join overhead and full stop (on frequency 122.7 MHz).

e. Phone FALW ATC (otherwise they will have to come search for you).

8. RT. As the Langebaanweg radio frequencies are expected to be rather busy during the event, pilots are to keep their RT transmission short and simple. Remember to read back ATC instructions.

9. Transponder. All transponder equipped aircraft should squawk 2000 once airborne.

10. Lunch. Visitors will be served a light meal and drinks at a cost of R40 pp (no other costs involved).

11. Tie-downs. Limited tie-down facilities exist on the flight line. Bring along your own cords/straps.

12. Radio Frequencies. Approach- 122.5 Mhz, Tower 128.8 Mhz, VFR below FAR45- 124.8 MHz.
