Build a RAF 2000 with me....

Hi Guy's
Thought this might make a nice thread to follow if you are interested in building planes or gyros.
I will post pictures, reports and progress here for you all to see and join in.
Ok Lets start, the kit has been picked by our warehouse department and put in the bay to start building.
First we start with the following:
Front wheel bearing holders and bearings

- Front wheel Bearing Holders attached to mail Keel
Keel To Mast plates.

- Keel To mast Plates
Keel Bent Plates

- keel bent Plates , keel is cut so that it fits the cabin shape.

I have fitted the control tube that runs on the keel to the back of the push tubes.

Nice hot day today in Upington again, but the building must continue.
Fitted the axle clamp brackets and main axle yesterday afternoon.

The Mast:
The Mast is hinges at a point approximately six inches above the pilots head. Cheek plates extend form the hinge point up to the rotor head. These cheek plates form one bar of the Four -bar linkage. The Push tube / Control rods are also two piece, with their hinge point located just below the mounting point of the cheek plates. The upper section of the control rods forms another vertical bar of the four-bar linkage. The torque Bar on the bottom of the rotor head forms one of the horizontal members of the four bar linkage.
Now if you imagine a rectangle, with the ends free to pivot, as you flex back and forth, all sides remain parallel. As we think about the rotor system, with each position of the advancing blade, there is a varying amount of drag on the system. The drag increases to the maximum for a given flight speed, and them diminishes, twice for each revolution of the rotor. In addition , there are gusts of wind that change the amount of total drag on the rotor.
Next is the ingenious part. With the push tube/control rods mounted to the front of the torque bar, mounted in front of the cheek plates , when the drag increases on the rotor ( from the natural rotation of the rotor or a gust of wind) the rotor head flexes backwards. This resulting movement of the rotor head causes the push tube /control rods to pull the front of the rotor disk downward. This downward movement of the front of the rotor disk unloads the rotor (aerodynamically speaking) , causing the drag to decrease. The same counts for when the drag decreases on the rotor and the mast flexes forward, the push rods will push up against the torque bar, thus loading the rotor disk.
This is the beauty of the design of this system. It tends to be self stabilizing by its very nature. This is the same type of thinking aeronautical engineers use when they design dihedral into airplanes to keep the wings level and the aircraft stable.
A horizontal stabilizer is certainly a good way to make some gyro planes easier to live with , but its not the only way. RAF has found another.........

Hehehe, ten minste lek die RAF nog nie olie nie.........................
Om met julle te deel , Een van daai rivets vat 500lb om hom af te trek. en daar is 32. dit gee jou 7,2 ton om daai plate af te trek....... dit is darm seker sterk genoeg

Die een gaan lekke wees om te volg. Dis hoogtyd iets gebeur want Gyro Talk is maar stil die laaste tyd.
Alhoewel dit my nie baie sal help nie want die RAF breek nooit nie!!!

Nee daar is net een bo die c of g en hy loop soos die c of g deur die hele mas.

Yesterday we Assembled The lower control arms that is attached to the push rods that goes to the Rotor Head.

- Lower Control Arms
We also assembled the Tail Wheel as well as the engine cradle and Main axle struts.

- Engine Cradle

- This is what we call the "H" bracket, it is part of the engine mounting as well as the main axle stuts
