Hi,

Welcome here. go to http://www.atns.co.za, the ATC headquaters. They explain everything very nice there.

herewith the long and the short:
Should you be interested in becoming an Air Traffic Control Assistant (ATSA) and/or an Air Traffic Controller (ATC) you need to apply by sending us a copy of your CV, together with a copy of your ID, motivation letter and a copy of your grade 12 results – you can e-mail it to recruitment@atns.co.za or by fax 011 974 0479.

The minimum requirements are as follows:
• At least 18 years of age
• Grade 12 with Maths and English – HG D or SG C or minimum level 4
• Medically Fit with no speech impediments
• South African Citizen

If you are still in Grade 12 then please send your interim or mid year results.

If you meet the necessary requirements, you will then be invited to participate in psychometric testing which is done around the country. This testing tests the candidate's "fit" with the profile of an ATSA and ATC and should you be successful with the tests, you will be invited for an interview. In addition, a candidate will need to successfully complete a written and oral English proficiency assessment. Successful candidates from the interviews will be required to complete an aviation medical examination in terms of the Civil Aviation Regulations. Once all of this is completed, it's all go with the training and successful candidates are offered a bursary to train. All of the training is conducted at our training academy in Johannesburg.

The training takes place in various stages with theoretical and practical modules. The duration of the bursary is just short of a year and then there is a fixed term contract for a further year. Success in these early stages may then result in the offer of permanent employment as an Air Traffic Control Assistant (ATSA).

Becoming a first level ATC , if selected to participate in the ATC training programme will take approximately 2 to 3 years and the higher level ATC's a further 3 to 4 years.

Good luck,
