Hi all
If i got an Aquilla, wich would be better, an HKS or 582?? :? :?
I want something with a good life, good consumption, reasonable power and makes me feel safe about going to Botswana or somewhere in Efrica.

good life, good consumption
i would prefer the HKS
reasonable power
i believe the 582 can deliver a little more but i would say the HKS will offer plenty of power. But then again how is the support for the HKS :?:

Hi Trikenut,

I only saw this post today...

We are the agents for the HKS700E. We decided to take over the South African HKS agency because we were extremely happy with our engine (which we flew in the 2007 World Microlight Championships, and came 2nd in our class. Robert Gassmann also flew with an HKS and came 5th in his class - both highest placed South African entries. Robert has since bought a second HKS because he likes the engine... still needs to find something to put it into though!).

Comparing the 582 to the HKS:

Power: The HKS has slightly less power (60hp as opposed to 65hp).
Fuel Consumption: The HKS uses 7.5 litres/hr (and no 2-stroke oil), as opposed to about 15 litres/hr in the same configuration.
Servicing: The HKS requires an oil and spark plug change at 200hrs (I replace my oil at 100hrs though), 582 - plugs every 25hrs.
Overhauls: The HKS has a TBO of 800hrs, 582 needs top end overhaul and decoke at 300hrs, major overhaul at 600hrs.
Reliability: The HKS is very reliable (4 stroke generally more reliable). The 582 is also a reliable engine.
Weight: Both engines are virtually the same weight (depending on the individual configuration).
Cost: A new HKS (including VAT, air freight, customs, muffler, oil tank (and mounting), tachometer, excl temp and press probes) will cost +-R80K at current exchange rate.

I like the 582, but I prefer the HKS... :)
