Hi All

Has anyone got experience or comments on this motor? From what I've read it holds it's ground rather well!

They're punting it as an alternative to Rotax.

HKS Motor

Hi All, Its performing well after its run in which took nearly 40 hrs to run (i used syntetic oil which was stupid) advised HKS and they said this phenomenon is normal..its just tight thats all, after that it flys almost as good as 582 Solo, but is equal dual it fact the torque characteristics help it some what. It is really smooth, HKS service is outstanding, they replaced my old mags foc within two days. The oil tank position is critical for performance to prevent cavitation. But the cherry is 6 litres solo, 8 litres dual, 200 hrs on plugs (they are iridium). The motor is real smooth with the NC prop, no oil leaks it has done nearly 90 hrs, starts immediately as it is used at present for headset and helmet tests. It does about 1 hr per day with many "circuits" up tp 3000 feet and back again.
I am delighted with the choice but flying to the haven from Ballito on 38 litres of fuel without jerry cans an absolute pleasure not having to worry about fuel makes up for the slight power loss. But it gets off the beach easier as you are 40kgs lighter. It needs to warm up to 110 degrees to give full beans and doesnt like to run cool. I blank off the oilcooler when solo.

Please feel free to view it at Ballito, Cheers Paul

ZULU1 Did you have to import your motor? I struggled to find local distributors as on the JP site they said No SA outlets, which concerned me in terms of parts etc, but judging from your message...you wouldn't perhaps have a website or name for me?

Try Solo Wings, they are the local agents. Got a quote from them this week. Nice price!!
