Microlighters

I went to purchase Castrol TTS this morning and was told it is no longer available... I purchased a bottle of the so called replacement (Castrol Power 1 Racing 2T jaso fc) but on reading the label find no recomendation for use in microlights as was on the TTS label. Does anyone know what is the replacement for Castrol TTS?

I know synthetic and mineral oils do not mix but what about different brands of synthetic? If I change from TTS to another synthetic will it be necessary to flush the oil injection system on my 582 or can I switch to a different synthetic once the level in the oil tank is zero?

Go wash all that synthetic shit out of your engine`s system, and do as the damn book says. TCW3 super outboard plus. No problemo. Of hou jy van sukkel?

That is what I have decided to do but what is the best way to flush out the system to ensure I remove all traces of synthetic before I re-fill with mineral oil ??

Remove the whole lot, clean out with petrol, let dry. Replace everything, pre-mix a bit of petrol, just in case of some air bubbles in the ouling system, and you should be fine. Decided to go the TCW3 route. A good friend phoned me yesterday. He has been using API ' Super Chainsaw" spec oil in his 582. After listening to the wrong advice. Now after 300 hrs: abnormal carbon build up, and BOTH bottom rings STUCK. His friend overhauled his 582 at the same hours, rings fine, and VERY little carbon. Need I say more.

API super Chainsaw is for the air cooled engines.
TCW 3 Super outboard Plus is for the water cooled engines.

End of argument.

Thanks for the advice Boet. I ran my previous 582 on super chainsaw with no ill effects but will go the super outboard route on this one once I have it all cleaned out!

what i will recomend is the following.

stay on synthetic but switch to a other brand.

ever heard of BP VISTRA SYNTHETIC, great stuff,very low and i mean low carborn deposit and that is what u need!!!

to open the motor and clean everything out is lookoing for trouble.

my 582 has done 700hours plus on bp oil,and still going strong

I agree,BP Vistra 250 is one of the best oils.Know of a lot of people in East London only useing this oil.I use it myself and after taking of my engines manifold for inspection i could still see the factory hone marks - clean and shiny.As i have heard it is not a good thing to change oils - stick with the one you used from start.Know of a guy who changed oil to still chainsaw oil - seased his engine in the air after 1 hour.Lots of opinions but the track record on BP Vistra 250 looks very good.i am sure there are other good oils as well - this is only my opinion on the experience i have.Good luck.

To answer your original question. I had the same problem this week. I bought a trike from someone who used Castrol Super TT only from day one. When I went to get some for myself I got the same reply as you. Since this is my first trike I was not sure what to do, so I contacted the only importer of Rotax in Oz ( Bert Flood Imports ) to get some advice. Here was their response.

Castrol Super TT has been changed to " Castrol Activ 2T " and this oil is fine to use.

We do not recomend the use of the other TTS one, as this oil is synthetic and attracts moisture out of the atmosphere rather than repelling it.

Stick with the Castrol Activ 2T and all should be fine.

After around 400 hrs my AMO told me that the engine had abnormal carbon build up, and the rings were stuck to the pistons , and had to be broken off. My mixture is correct as per Rotax spec. They suggested I look at something like Engen Super outboard 2-stroke oil

Im not sure about this Engen oil, so at this stage i have:

BP Vista 250
Engen Super outboard 2-stroke
Castrol Active 2T

Found this on Castrol Active, but now the question. WILL IT WORK on a 503 aircooled engine??

Castrol Active is a mineral oil and "Motal Synthetic" is obviously not. Which one is responsible for the build-up? How many hrs did you do on the Castrol and how many on the Motal? Did you have it inspected before you switched over?

Was anyone able to find Castrol Active 2T in south africa? and where? at what price.?
I could only find Castrol 2T extended - any chance this is the same thing?
