Raptor Wing adjustment

When flying straight and level with my trike, the A frame is very close to the airofoil tube and therefore gives you very little forward play.Does the wing need to be set backwards or forward in order to bring the nutural bar little bit to the back.

 This way if you are flying that way <==========

In other words = backwards.

Further forward would exacerbate your concern.

Huh?

Sorry I am a beancounter and missing something here. If A frame too far forward in flight (neutral) the hangpoint needs to be moved forward to bring the control bar backward in flight

Not so?

Hang point fixed - wing can move at hang point

Hi Big D,

Take a piece of paper at tea time and “doodle with a few sketches”.

The primary move is the C of G (hang point).

The secondary move (consequence) is the bar position for level cruise.

Hi Carel,

I fly an Aquilla – but still, this doesn’t seem right.

Wing characteristics change with time and minor hang point adjustments seem the norm with the Aquilla wing.

See it as moving the under carridge on the wing.

If your under carridge is too far forward of the wing:
1) the bar will be in your chest and you will fly fast.
2) you will have to give more power to maintain straight and level flight.

If the under carridge is to far back of the wing:
1) The bar will be close to the profile tube
2) Less power needed to maintain straight and level flight
3) close to the stall.

The whole idea is to try set your under carridge up on your wing that when flying you can take your hands off the bar and it wont move forward or back of your desired trim.

Wing backwards under carridge forwards.

And to compensate, one would push the bar forward and be able to reduce power to more of a cruise setting.

Hence, the hang point needs to be moved backwards.

REDROMAN – the “key” to this discussion –

1. Are you having to push the bar forward to maintain level flight? or

2. Is the bar extremely far forward in hands-off level flight?

Hi John

The bar is extremely far forward in hands-off level flight. When on desired altitude and in straight & level the bar is close to the profile tube, although in neuteral position. On this 503 we are cruising at 45 mp/h two up on 5700rpm.I personaly think the undercaridge must go forward - wing back.

Simple - Move hangpoint forward (Towards nose of aircraft), you will fly faster, cruise rpm a little higher and bar neutral position will move closer to you (the pilot) in flight

Thanks for all your comments, will let you know if it worked.

In this case ...

Hi REDROMAN,

In this case, the hang point needs to be moved forward. !!!!

If as I said, you had to push the bar forward to maintain level flight, the hang point would have to be moved backwards.

One thing i never mentioned was the trim on the wing. The trim was trimed up all the time, thus making you fly slower and nose up.When we trimed it down the a-frame came back to its normal position. If someone can inform me when and how to use the trim effectively that would be great.
