Fuel tank plumbing

Hi,
My Kolb has fuel feed suction tubes that go in the top of the tank.
Why can't one just have a supply outlet at the bottom of the tank?
Any ideas from the building pro's please.

Hi TKA,
I am not a building pro! but the drawings of the Flying Flea that I built also showed the same set up. The explanatory notes suggested this entry of the fuel pipe through the top of the tank with the purpose of preventing serious leakage in the event of a crack or flange gasket failure or whatever at this potentially vulnerable point. Makes sense but I guess it is a question of how robust your tank design is if you decide to fit your fuel line to the bottom of the tank.

You could not have it at the very bottom of the tank because it will just pick up water or gunk at the bottom of the tank. Having the pick-up from the top also means it is easier to work on/ inspect without having to drain the tank.
