Aquilla 2 Wing

The Aussies are all in awe of my Aquilla 2 wing - they have never seen something that tightly strung before apparently.

Now I know that when I hangared in Saldanha the other guys used to comment on how tight the flying wires were and I noticed that the Aquilla 1 and Windlass wings' flying wires seemed to droop much more than mine but is this usually the case?

The only other Aquilla 2 wing I ever saw seemed to be the same as mine. My AP also said that there was nothing wrong with how taut the wires were.

I am just checking..........

Hi Cloud Warrior,

The flying wires of the Aquilla I did my training on were also tighter strung than those of a Raptor.

Is it not wearing in the wing that makes the cables slacken? I've never seen a schools wings slacken (they sell them too soon) but was told it was easier to manage when they do and is the equivalent of a "run in engine".

Just make sure that your spreader bar cable is only tensioned to the first hole on the rear of the keel tube i.e. that is the loosest setting. Then your side flying wires should not be too tight

Thanks for the reply Aidan. That is the current setting I have it on. To me they are not that tight - but relative to say the Airborne XT 912 parked next door to me they do look a lot tighter - the Airborne trike flying wires positively droop.

The other question that they asked was wrt the wires being wrapped around each other - something else they are not used to.
