Alternator - how many amps will do?

Postby Wingless Nut » Thu Aug 17, 2006 3:06 pm

For the electronics buffs; Would 22 amps be enough for a radio (like microair), intercom, single strobe and a handheld GPS? If not, what would the minimum requirement be?

The power circuit of a typical Rotax installation is protected by a 16A fuse. I have never heard of anyone blowing this fuse due to usage (a direct short might do it. So I would hazzard a gues and say that 22 A would be more than enough

The typical Rotax generator generates 12v 140 Watt, this translates to 11.67 Amps maximum current

Thanks Morph! That helps me in getting all my facts straight for my plans-built project. I will have more questions to pitch as it all comes together. It's reassuring to know that there are knowledgeable aviators on this forum, who are able to help those like me that wander (& wonder) around in the dark.
