Oil Leak

When doing the pre-flight on saturday I noticed that there is some 2-stroke oil leaking from behind the water pump on my 582.
I know there is a seal on the rotary shaft to prevent the lubricating 2-stroke from getting into the water in the water pump. What puzzles me is that if the seal is damaged would the oil not just mix with the water and not leak unless the gasket on the waterpump has also gone? If the gasket between the waterpump and the block was damaged would it not be a combination of water and oil thats leaking? Is there something I'm missing.... where else could the oil be coming from?

There is a difference on the mod 90 and 99, silvertop vs bluetop,
The waterpump seal , silvertop , two seald back to back , blue top ceramic seal.
On the casing in the vicinity of the waterpump you have a weep hole , deseined to get rid of water or oil , Syptons of an oil leak can be a leaking seal , or moving crank cases , the sealent between the casing is moving out due to excessive vibrations , or loose crankcase bolts .
Clen the oil off with some absorbant tissue , spray with petrol and dry , ground run the engine and stop to check every five minutes to source oil leak , Report back and I will inform how to solve leak
