Aerodrome info for Air Nav Pro on iPad

All Air Nav Pro users,

The Aerodrome info for South Africa in the built-in database of Air Naviagation Pro is not very accurate. I have pointed this out to their support team and on their request, gave them some references where they can get up to date info. In the mean time I have started building my own database which is in a format (tab delimited text) that can be downloaded into the application (ANP). Building these files is very time consuming and I was wondering whether someone has not done this already? If you have such data please post it on the forum so that all ANP users can benifit from it. Attached are my files for some of the Aerodromes in my area. Just change the file extension from .doc to .txt. Forum wont accept .txt files.

Safe Flying
Cheers

I have the following information available in excel (which I converted to kmz files) and from excel can obviously get this in the CSV format that you want. Just check the attached file and let me know if the info on these airfields (click on them for runway and radio info), obstacles and reporting points will be of any value to you and I can get it in the correct file format and forward to you. You will just have to give me the exact format that they require.

Hi guys. Please don't forget us Air Nav Pro Android users
I've just started playing around with Air Nav Pro on my Samsung, now I'm looking for a way to mount the thing on my profile tube. The knee thing for a cellphone didn't really work out as the screen's too small, and I'll need the display right infront of me

Of course D2O.

I have no experience with ANP for Android but I would imagine that the info, albeit in a different format, be usefull for Android.

I use the WebDav server on iPad for ANP (using 3 X text files for waypoints) and it works 100%. Must just figure out how to integrate the files the guys have made available on the forum into my database. (**)

Sadly the Android version is light years behind the iOS version, but they are slowly making progress.

e.g. you still can't put runway directions on custom waypoints

If you are looking at something for your Android, try SkyDemon, they just released their Android version recently.

It certainly looks much more feature-rich than ANP's current Android offering. Will give it a try on the weekeend

Now how to get them to rename "Laser" to "Ingwe" on their maps....

Yeah I'd also love to know how to edit/delete the existing airfields that come standard with ANP?!

Hi Ant, you can't. I asked them that question and they said you can't. They did say they will look at the references I gave them and update the build in database to make it more accurate. I would think for that amount of money the database should have been more accurate. Because of the inacuracy I started building my own "user waypoint" database with accurate? information. Thanks for posting your work. I managed to convert your backup.sql file into the 3 text documents which I can easily edit and then just upload (using the WebDav server) as an extension to my own points. What I did find is that custom user waypoints luckily are displayed on top of the build in points and if you tap on the point the custom point takes preference for opening. So, I made sure that my points have exactly the same co-ordinates as the one I want to replace. I must say, flying with ANP is realy great and definitly much safer.

If you want I can post your text files here?

Also please go to the following web site and update your airfield information there. Just log in with your microlighters username & password. See Bundy's thread "Misasa Airfields Guide....great idea or waste of time?"

Attached your text files. What I found is that if you upload them without deleting the ones on the iPad first the info is added (appended) to your list of waypoints, resulting in duplicates. ##

I have updated some of the Airfields in the Pretoria area.

There are some "tricks" in ANP to getting the info concatenated/combined. (**)

And whatever you do...don't use special characters, like ' or ; or " or @ iPad transfer hangs.

Hope it helps....

The guys from SkyDemon are open for corrections and suggestions. Send them an e-mail and be sure it will be done on the next issue.
