Electric Starter for Rotax 503

I am considering fitting an electric starter on the Rotax 503 I am using on the Flying Flea I am building but need to consider the effect on the Weight and Balance. Does anyone perhaps know what the weight of a Nissan 1400 starter is and also the weight of a suitable battery?
Thanks
Le Pou

Hi Nick,
I have not done anything as yet but I will be using a Nissan 1400 starter. There are threads on this site with photos which describe the set up. Basically you remove the pull-start and bolt on an aluminium plate which carries the starter on the side. Toothed pulleys to take an auto timing belt are fitted to the starter and the crankshaft. An extension is made for the crankshaft to carry the pulley and a sprag gear so that the starter is not dragged along when the engine takes. And that's about it but look up the threads. A lot of detail is given.
Regards,
Roy

If you can make me a set of Drawings i can get an Engineer to make up the plate then we can put the rest together. Will be cheaper if we make about 5 or so.

Hi Gavin,
At this stage I have got nothing, only the idea, and it will be some months before I will look at it. My brother in law has suggested using auto plastic timing pulleys which might be cheaper than aly but it is all pie in the sky at present.

Roy

This should then also be able to work on a 582 with a "c-box" , if one removes the pull-start ?
Jean.
