Scratches on Lexan

Tip I picked up on the X-Air forum from Lloyd Hughs
Top tip with Lexan; If your Lexan has become covered in fine scratches, dreadful when flying into sun, then wash gently with washup liquid and water to get the muck off (don't use plastic sponge ) , dry, then spray some silicone spray onto a pad of Kleenex tissue and spread it onto the screen, polishing lightly with Kleenex until clear ( not kitchen paper or cloth) . Its like magic ! It lasts all day but will need redoing after a couple of days if you are going to fly into sun. Harmless to Lexan. Old pilots have been using it for years on crazed Plexiglass and Perspex. If you can't find silicone spray, try Builders' Merchants, its sold to ease assembly of plastic pipes. Or you can use Mr. Sheen or similar silicone furniture polish. Don't spray aerosol directly onto the Lexan though, the stuff is very cold and temporarily fogs the material ( but only for a few mins. ) No need to use too much !
Its far far better than any of the much more expensive Aircraft Screen Cleaners.
You can also use this stuff on helmet visors and scratched lenses on spectacles, its amazing. all the scratches disappear.
Just keep it away from electrical contacts. Silicon is an excellent insulator and creeps in every where.

Just use Pledge or Mr Min and a soft cotton t-shirt.

I also cover my screen when not flying with a soft babies blanket, AUKie a gentle sort you know. This keeps unneccesay dust off which is the stuff that scrathces the screen in the first place.

The South African polycarbon sold by Cape Plastics etc scratches a lot easier than the proper Lexan
