Oil Injection 582

Hello fellow aviators
I reside on the east coast of Australia in Newcastle . I fly a Airborne microlite out of Somersby (about 35nm south) .My instructor Len (Epat za) suggest I should spend some time contributing to this forum. I havent much to contribute at this time as most problems have been solved except one -
So -The oil injection system on Rotax powered Blue top 582 appears to drain, when stopped, (Takes about a week) into front carby ( the one closest to the driver). The amount of oil is not great (Say 2 tablespoons) but it is enough to wet the airfilter and some of it mixes with the carby fuel bowel. (makes starting a real bugger unless you dump the fuel and refill with fresh fuel). It appears to stop after a short time . Oil consumption running at about 60 to 70 to one . Metering cable is closed when stopped.. Motor otherwise runs well . Plugs all happy. Fuel consumption about 13L/hr.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Boet is the guy to speak to on this forum. He is passionate about the rotax auto lube.

Welcome to the forum Greg.
Send PM to Boet if he doesn't reply here.
I'm not getting involved here, I don't like autolube

I agree, remove the autolube system!. Pre mix is easy and you know that your motor is getting the right amount of oil - no engine sieze or too much oil etc.
Had mine removed when i got my aerie in 2006 and havnt looked back- its the only way to go !

I know of three engines (582) that seized because of autolube in our club the past 2 jears, take it off.

Is your engine tilted downward at the front when standing in the hangar? Oil is running into the rotary gear housing and draining into the lower carb, (front one)
Sounds like your autolube is staying open even at idle. Check the set up. At idle the marks must align

Ok not much support for autolube . But it works (for now)! Inspecting cables confirmed metering lever is closed at idle(ie marks align). Looking down the throat of forward carby a pool of oil is gathered around the small nozzle and is pooling toward the aircleaner. Yes the motor does cant forward (prop highest point). I wonder if there is a lazy check valve in the system. ?
I will have another fiddle in the weekend and check back .

PS how do I contact Boet

Man I would kill for that! My 582 is still between 18 - 20

see Pic,
You can see the holes that feed the oil into the two carb intakes. There don't appear to be valves here. The oil is injected via the oil pump into the rotary valve casing via the port. The only way oil can be leaking through to the carbs is due to the oil pump not sealing off when closed. I don't have a schematic breakdown of the pump itself, sorry.

I was under the impression that oil was injected via these two lines from the oil pump . These lines run along engine behind carbs .
OK- so it sounds like good design to pump oil to the rotary valve face. So what do these two tiny lines do.?
Options
1. I guess in the absence of a old pump to examine the only option is to remove and inspect . The rotax manual says do not rebuild.
2. Live with it. It does not at this time seem to have any detremental effects on the engine performance. (oil consumption normal)
Probably go with option 1 although i am in no rush

I have not the faintest idea wht is going on here, and I really cannot help you on this one. I could take a mild guess, and say that the pump is maybe faulty. Are you very sure that the oil is not coming from the rotary valve reservior? Open the little white bottle on top of the engine and LOOK inside!! BUT as far as I am concerned, the auto-lube system remains a winner. Please do not listen to those nay-sayers, and NEVER remove the system. You will be sorry afterwards. Please give us feedback on this problem, never had it before, and we would all like to learn from it.

On second thought, please send picture of the engine installation.......

Thanks will have a look this weekend. Take pictures etc . No the rotary valve reservoir is up to the mark. (It never seems to need topping up) I use a different color 2 stroke oil in the rotary valve and oil injection .
On a side note I grew up with japanese 2 strokes and later 4 stroke (chain oilers) and despite everything else blowing up the oil injection pump never failed.

Update on oil leak
Inspected cables etc found all OK .The metering arm marks -"lined up" at O throttle . There however appeared to be slight movement available till it hit the stop . Adjusted. Will look in a week and report. I have included a pic of the Rig . Not much use trying to photo down the carby throat.

The photo appears to be to big to upload.I will attempt to reduce in size
