Vertex VXA 210 radio; symptoms: receive 5/5, broadcast 0/5.
One moment radio was working perfectly fine, next moment I can hear/receive 100% but no one can hear me. We checked the aerial, headset, etc. Someone used his hand held and could hear me okay up to about a 10m radius.
Any idea on what the problem can be or who I can contact to have a look at it ?(Pta area). Any idea on cost involved in having it fixed??
Ag please help tog!
Thanks Jodie

Re: Vertex VXA 210 radio problems
I would check out the auxilliary plug, 3,5 mm diameter many plug ins can cause cable to crack inside. Check with just the hand held function first. The importers are Verstay and the main dealers are Comet Aviation supplies who took over from the previous importers.
We have never had a single problem with the VXA 220 but the 210 is nowhere near as good.

Re: Vertex VXA 210 radio problems
Hi Soekiwindni.
DO NOT SEND YOUR RADIO TO COMET AVATION!!! (did you hear that, read it again and make sure you do not get the urge)
I sent my radio to them and got it back three months later and R300 bucks later and it is still faulty. And they will ignore you when you complain.
Contact Andre at Verstay, http://www.verstay.co.za. I sent my radio to them and have received a backup radio in the interim. My radio has been with them for 5 months(due to it being out of warrant, crismis coming around and a host of other reasons) and R1000 later but it looks like they know what they are doing. The problem seems to be the crack Zulu is talking about and then there is a part that blows on the pc board as well. Probably due to the crack.
I am starting to think we should stay away from the vertex radios as we get quicker help on the icomm radios.
I hope this helps.

Re: Vertex VXA 210 radio problems
I also fly from the same airfield as Soekiwindni with a similar Vertex 210 radio. When I bought the plane I had endless problems with comms until I spoke to the Vertex agents (Zulu pointed me there) and Zulu himself. My problems were resolved by:
1) There was a loose wire on the intercom which was fixed by BUZZCOM. Took the complete system to them and they checked it out and identified the loose wire and replaced/fixed it.
2) I Installed 'bunny ears' from Air Magic............ and as it says magic. Comms in excess of 50nm.
3) I charge the batery once a month using the 220 charger at home. I Noticed that when the batery goes flat the radio dies when you push the PTT and qulaity of comms deteriorates quite quickly. A fully charged batery works wonders
Very happy with Vertex as it is easy to operate and works very well......... maybe oneday I will replace it with a 220 or the then replacement model.
Fly safe.

Re: Vertex VXA 210 radio problems
Hi Jodie, start by checking all fuses on the plane. See the other post on radio coms. We had the same problem in J-bay over December (could hear 5/5 but transmit 1/5 or 0/5. Only the last day before we pack up to come home we discover a blown fuse. Replaced it and radio was 100%. Your problem is not enough battery power or nothing at all.
