Could my regulator be faulty.

you can just unplug the yellow wires and insulate them if need be.

If there is no circuit, there is no current.

I had a 503 that didn't have a battery or regulator circuit and ran like that for hundreds of hours.

Ok I removed the reg and all the associated wiring from my trike today,

Just as well I did as I found that the 2 yellow wires that run from the engine
down to the reg which is mounted on my battery box in the front of my pod,

Were partly melted and had fused to the spiral wrap that surrounds them along with
other wiring, luckily the other wiring looks fine,

This loom is hidden from sight being enclosed in a velcro sleeve and it worries me to think I was flying with the
wiring in this condition,

From what I can see the a/c makers who I know fitted the charging sys, seem to
have extended the yellow wires from the generator with auto type crimp
connectors male female, covering them from view with shrink wraps, and at this join there appears
to be a high resistance joint which is to be the seat of the melting,

They have used this method of joining these wires in 2 places on this wire run,
and I cannot understand why, maybe they were running short of wire???

A very poor job indeed,

I test run the engine after removing the reg and all seems fine, even the VHF is now nice and quiet
with little or no crackle, it did used to buzz before,

A big thank you to you guys for your advice,

I will see how I go on know without a charging system, I think I should be ok with it though.
