Unfortunately the prices have increased quite dramatically. The in-line Facet Fuel Pump is now R 400 (Incl. VAT) which is more than I paid in total and the other bits & pieces add up. Granted, I had much of what I needed.

Got the current prices from Solo Wings this morning and included them in my original post (above).

The 60mm stainless ‘U’ bolt was obtained from Pinetown Nut & Bolt.

I would still fit the pump at R 632 less what parts you already have or can scrounge.

I think that they made a mistake with my price – “dunno”?? Will check it out – it doesn’t suit me to “score an odd buck here or there”.

Apologies for the belated reply, been travelling round oz. I have attached the spec of the Racor Filter Unit as follows. Website for viewing the product is as follows:

These units were applied as a mod after testing here in Oz up in the tropics. The unit is specifically designed for contaminated marine outboard applications and is fitter with a water blocking cellulose 1 micron or a 250 micron plastic gauze. The cost here in Oz is about AU$50 (R250).

So far we have had one DTA on a gauze unit for over 100 training hours with fuel pump on and off with no issue.

We have had two similar DTA's fitted with the 1 micron cellulose filter, each run for in excess of 50 hours with reasonable periods of standing and had no blockage with electrical pump on and off.

We were concerned that the threaded gascolator would vibrate loose during flight, but so far we have had no loss of tightness in the screw on fitting.

We happened upon this solution working closely with guys in the marine industry working the Great Barrier Reef in the tropics. This solution does provide an alternative to the Purolator Glass Bowl Filters that we have found to get clogged quite often and the Bosch Plastic disposable filters that come standard with our Rotax 912's here in Oz. We found the wide conic shape of the filter to be less prone to clogging from sediment. The sight bowl gives one a really good look at the condition and any contamination of the fuel during pre flight inspection.

Note that we found that the Racor guys were not keen to sell these to us for aviation purposes because of liability issues - we had to be careful regarding purchase.

I got a Facet fuel pump from midas.On inspection i saw it had a non return valve which made me think it is not the right one.If you place the pump inline with the fueltank the pump should not have a return valve???Want to use the pump at certain times and not all the time.Fuel must be able to flow through the elctric pump.

They do have a non-return valve. See my posting under backup fuel pump installed. That Facet 40242 works just fine- no problems.

Bought a facet a week ago from Midas and paid R 201 for it. Same code. Works well Somebody making some bucks along the way.
