Fuel Levies

Postby Gadget » Tue Oct 10, 2006 11:05 am

Hi. Can anyone tell me if there is still a road accident fund levy on unleaded and if there are any other levies on fuel? I'm just wondering if we are paying for something we should not.

Don't know, but this might be opening a can of worms. I don't know if there are any aviation levies on Avgas, which we obviusly don't pay.

jup, it is a can of worms.

Firstly there are about 20 levies on feul, I will see if I can dig up the breakdown.

Should we be exempt from the levies (such as Road Accident Fund, and others only applicable to road use),it would be impossible to police people buying feul for an aerie (without paying road levies) and then putting it in their car.

I also doubt we can clame from the Road Accident fund if your aerie crashes because we pay that levie when using the feul.

The way around it is to maybe buy premixed 2 stroke feul as that cannot be used in a car (I think)...

Levies...

Since I work closely with DOT and have access to this kind of stuff, here you go:

http://www.dme.gov.za/energy/breakdown03.stm

Just click on the amounts and it wil lshow you the break-down.

I've sent an e-mail asking about fuel for aviation vs road users, but I can imagine there is a levy on FUEL not motorcar fuel. SO, even if you buy it for your lawnmower, it still has a levy on it, since the price is regulated and not the application.
