Maintenance schedules & New prospective buyers

Without getting into detail, a word of caution to buyers of aircraft - make sure you know what you are buying!

A friend of mine took the trouble to call me before making an offer on an aircraft with a 912ULS motor in it. The aircraft had been used for commercial purposes and maintained by an AMO. What has transpired is that it is clear that AMO's servicing the aircraft (well, at least the 1 and 2 others he spoke to) don't have a clue about NTCA & ROTAX Service/Maintenance schedules.

I was shocked to be told that seeing that it is NTCA, you can fly the motor indefinitely, changing only the oil and doing simple line maintenance which would cost in the region of R 6000. Now, the snag is, the engine is either reaching it's TBO or has exceeded it. There are mandatory inspections that need to be done on this motor in terms of Part 44 and the manufacturers prescriptions. So, either someone is oblivious to the fact or they are circumventing this with intent - so what you may say? The bottom line is that your safety is at risk and that of your life or who knows, the pax flying with you.

I urge you to read the attached regs... make sure you are in line and well, the rest is up to you!
