PLACES TO VISIT IN THE UK.

I will be shortly going to the UK for about a month. The main purpose of the visit, amongst other things, is to visit as many war and aircraft museums, as time will allow. I have been to the imperial museum at Duxford, RAF museums at Cosford, and Hendon, also visited Brooklands. I will be going to them all again, but can anyone suggest other places of interest. Unfortunetely The Imperial war museum in London is closed to the end of July, as they are preparing for the centenary celebration of the start of the 1st WW. I will also be visiting non military places as well.
Would love to be able to make up an itinary, before I leave.
Your help please!!!
Vernon.

Check out airshows.org.uk, apart from the biggies like the Fairford Air Tatttoo, there are a lot of smaller shows with vintage planes, cars, etc.
What time of year are you coming?

Lived there for 18 months.....best place to visit is the departures terminal at Heathrow!
Seriously though, don't waste your time in London...get out into the countryside.

Hi Vernon, sorry to say but what Alan say is true. Heathrow Departure Terminal the best place to be. (Was for me anyway).

Just revving you up Vern....

Visiting there and working there are two different things. I did not see the sun for 7 months...got to work before sunrise and by 16h30 it's pitch dark??

Seriously not cool...
The UK is actually quite beautiful, especially from an architectural and historical point of view. Take a trip to the south/east coast and your fascination with WW2 will be amazed. Literally 1000's of historical landmarks and war memorials/fortifications to be seen. London is over rated.... dirty, full of foreigners and too many Australians.

Spend a day or two there and then move on. It's in the little towns out in the countryside where you will experience the real UK. Awesome little pubs around with friendly folk. Lake district is stunning.
If I ever get the chance to go back, I'd go tour Scotland/Ireland which I didn't see last time around.

Vernon, if you can get to Yeovilton, the Fleet Air Arm museum is well worth a visit. Mainly Naval Aviation. At present most of Somerset is under water. But maybe worth a call to see if they are open.
See

Also the De Havilland aircraft museum is worth a look.

And the Tank museum

I am unsure why you have chosen this time of year to visit, may i suggest that you buy a new wet suit..Gul make nice ones, I made the lining plant many years ago..
