How much is enough

Postby eyetie » Wed May 31, 2006 7:03 am

Hi guys

I completed my MPL about a month ago. When i was training i flew about 3 times a week early morning before work. Now that i have my licence and it is winter i cannot fly in the morning and get to work in time. So my problem is i only get to fly about once a week maybe for a hour or 2.
Is this enough to keep me sharp ? I sometimes worry that if i have a engine failure or some sort of problem that i may not be able to handle it. although my training was very good but then i was flying regularly.

Eyetie, you shouldn't be complaining too much, your plane is alot closer to the hangar door than mine   can you imagine how i'm feeing, sometimes going weeks between when I fly.
One of the things I did when I had just qualified, was that if it had been a while since i flew, I'd do 2/3 solo circuits on my own, before loading the baggage. Also, sometime, just spending a hour in the circuit, just to refresh on the things that you /our instructor taught us.

PS, am planning a day flyaway-trip - prob in a month or so, will advise

Hey eye - I think you need to start getting scared if you fly 1 hour a month or less.

As KB says, do some circuits and simulated engine outs (i prefer the engine on - just in case - no need to tempt fate, but others turn the big fan off)

You should be fine

I reckon if you getting a flight in a week you doing well and better than most.
I think a good pilot will keep their circuit training up like KB says, a good idea there, also what is recommended to us is just to take a simulated flight test once a year just to make sure you up to scratch and have'nt picked up any bad habbits.
