Naaah, my skattie did the licence long time ago (long before I landed up on MISASA Exco

). She had a contact at ICASA and this chap was extremely helpful and capable. At the time I was the SO for KFS and we made sure that such things were always in place. I suppose the initial paperwork was just done properly and added to the system! I also don't do this pay once in a blue moon thing - I pay the yearly fees and it's done and dusted!

Hi Guys,
Noted the above mails and thanks to some of you kind folk for the praise!! LOL
One of the biggest problems I have with these forums, note it's not just this one, is that people use pseudonyms or pen-names and don't identify themselves, neither is there any info relevant to who they are if you search their "user name". Sometimes there is a contact email address but more often you have to send mail via the forum. When someone lodges a grumble (let's not call them complaints just yet) about ICASA, I am more than willing to try and assist in resolving the problem (challenge in current terminology) or at least shedding some light on why the problem occurred in the first place. However, to be able to even start doing that I need to know either your proper name and initials or, if you are reluctant to divulge that on an open forum, the registration letters and, preferably, the radio licence number of the aircraft concerned. Our database is structured using that info and is cross-referenced so that whichever info I input, i.e. licence holder's name, aircraft's call letters or radio licence number, it will give me the financial status, and all other licence detail such as radio equipment, type of aircraft, etc.
"
Bugwar" very kindly posted my contact details in the mail above, but I'd just like to amend the office fax number which has had to be changed as the original one became irreparably unserviceable. It is now 011-5664039, fax to email is 011-5664042, direct phone is 031-3349515 (voicemail is available) and email is
pleonard@icasa.org.za Any one of these will reach me either directly or via a message which I will return ASAP.
"Air Hog" please supply the abovementioned info and I'll endeavour to address your grumble.
For the information of everyone who has paid for an extended period licence, the situation at present is that the company who do the programming of our mainframe database in Joburg have had problems reconfiguring the DB to actually issue licences with a validity extending for more than 12 months. Whilst they've been busy with our Spectrum Licensing department trying to reprogram the DB accordingly, most of the licence holders who had paid even up to 5 years ahead were issued with a 12-month period licence expiring on 31/03/2013. It is envisaged that, as soon as the glitches have finally been sorted out, new licences conforming to the licence fee paid will be issued to replace the 12-month licences already issued. So those of you who have paid in advance can expect to receive a further licence document in the reasonably near future (I have been told that a trial run may be attempted next week and, if it is successful, a start will be made on issuing extended-period licences most probably the week thereafter - but please don't take that as gospel because, with electronics anything can happen and what usually does happen is the least expected and most inconvenient!).
Of course, there may be licence holders who have paid and not yet received even a 12-month licence. In that case, although I am not empowered to issue an actual licence document, I will be happy to forward a letter confirming that the licence fees have been paid and that the relevant licence is valid. I am sure that RAASA and/or CAA will find that acceptable.
Ciao for now,
Peter

Hi Peter
Thank you for explaining to us what the problem is. My biggest gripe was the fact that you send mails requesting answers and receive no reply. I know I have paid but do not know if it was in someone others bank account!
Thanks again.

Hi Air Hog,
I've checked your account status and it is currently reflecting a credit of R209.00, your payment of R329.00 (for a 3-year licence) having been credited on 12/04/2012. As mentioned in my previous posting, we have some bugs in our DB which are being sorted out, however, because we have received payment of the minimum R120.00 on this licence (OK I know you've paid more than that) the Auditor General requires that we issue a licence accordingly, so, as our DB can only presently issue licences for a 12-month period, pending successful re-programming, that is what has been done. At a later stage once the bugs have been cleared, a further licence will be issued for the period conforming to the licence fee amount paid, in your case 3 years. That will effectively supercede your 12-month licence which you can then throw away. If you haven't yet received it, that could be for a number of reasons which are outside my control and which I therefore cannot comment on but, if you need one in the meantime, I'll be glad to draft a letter confirming that your licence is fully paid and valid until at least 31/03/2013.
Regards,
Peter
