Microlighters

Hi,

I am considering to to take up microlighting in a trike. I am a complete novice in this aspect of aviation, and would like to learn more about it before I take the plunge . Can anybody recommend some books on trike flying? I am not talking about coffee table books with nice pics, but the technical stuff.

I found little info books available when I started.

Rather search the manufacturer / supplier web pages from this forum.

Better still, contact your nearest instructor and arrange a test flight. You'll gain more info from that. Then buy the books that the training school uses for theory.

Couple of books listed on kalahari.net, i have occasionally the first one in a couple of CNA`s but you will probably have to order; (first book is tech stuff, third book is coffee table, second seems to be a combination of tech and coffee...)

I am looking for the book: Know the Sky , or something to that effect, and also Competition Flying by the same author. Looked in Kalahari.net, but no luck.

Does anybody know who stocks these books?

I think you are looking for " Understanding the Sky" by Dennis Pagan.

He did write a microlight book as well, but is more a Hang Glider author. Other books include " Performance Flying" but it is for advanced Hang Gliding.

You can order "Understanding the Sky" pretty much from any of the big internet bookstores.

I will google for the books.

I would like to educate myself more on micro meteorology, and I would think that the hang glider fraternity has a lot of knowledge on that subject.

I don't think the Met in Performance Flying will be of much use to you. Its more about good soaring conditions...

Understanding the Sky is a great book, but not really for beginners. Its very involved and quite complicated. I think its an excellent book to have on your shelf, and keep reading it as your experience grows. It makes more and more sense as you fly more.

A great guy to try and arrange a good met course with is Johan Anderson in Wilderness. His knowledge is incredible and he takes special care with each person he trains. (You might have to book yourself onto a Hang Gliding Course though to get the benifit of this) Send me a pm if you want his details.

Ahhh, Wilderness, yes great idea for met course.

Unfortunately this will have to wait, but I managed to track down the book.
