ICASA radio licenses cancelled

Hi all.

Just a heads up to those of you, who like me, waited until the last second to pay your radio licenses. Icasa went ahead and cancelled some licenses from a list they drew up in january. When i called today to find out where my license i was told it was cancelled, I paid on 31/03/2011. My suggestion to you would be to contact the finance department in Jo'burg and speak to Gavin to get it sorted out.
Does anyone know where this cancellation was advertised?

The license is not valid unless accompanied by a proof of payment.

Check i think expiry would have been 2011/3/31
The rates was supposed to go up to R120 I think from 1 April 2011, so they invoices everyone for 3 months to get their financial year end same as the billing cycle. Then there was outcry or FU on their side and the new fees are postponed till 2012. So new invoice for 2011/2012 should be in post soon for the R36 balance of the ear or R48 for the new year. Few folks even at ICASA know WTF is going on?

In mean time I continue to fly with only the R48 receipt in the plane...

I some years get a license, some years invoice and some years just attitude from CAA regarding the license...

I have just received the license for the 3 months till 30/3/11 which was paid for last year in Nov.

As standard practise I pay the R48 every Nov since I had a nasty fight with a nasty CAA ramp inspector at PTAR a couple years ago.... For R48 it not worth the stress, although I must tell you nobody can tell me WTF the radio station license is actually for? (ie if ICASA ceased functioning - I know that was assuming they functioned in first place but humour me, what would the effect be other than I would not have to pay R48 and fight with CAA?) ## ## ##

It offers no value. Just a means to support another quazi government structure, like the plastic bags levy, the 1% on all accomodation bills for the tourism board, e.t.c. Soon they'll dream up a sports stadium tax.

(I think I might just get cozy with my new friend Julius)

I got a license renewal in Jan for up to March 31, think it was R18.

Just got a new one for R48 but nowhere does it state from when until when
Just payed it at post office and now carry the receipt it with me.

Hi Folk.

Are you aware that ICASA has applied for exemption from the Consumer Protection Act. The reason is obvious. The excuse, I am sure, will be well structured.

Can you believe the audacity?

Regards.

Hi David,

Quite true and all municipalities will be exempt from the CPA as well - just can't deliver despite raising rates way over the CPIX.

Helkom and Eishkom will follow shortly. In time, every other parastatal parasite will be exempt from the CPA as well.

This Icasa is so typical government. Now the site is broken as well. Anyone receive their licenses yet? Still waiting for mine or feedback. I now fly with a fm radio cause apparently you dont need a license for that. It picks up 5fm and boy do those guys know jack all about radio procedure, they just play music all the time.
