Colourblindness.

Postby Cali » Tue Feb 28, 2006 2:07 pm

What exactly is colourblindness?.
Can see only grey?
Mixes up colours?
Some colours look the same?

I worked with a guy once who was trying to convince me that he was colourblind. He said that for him, a traficlight's lights was changed around.
He said that the green looked like red and the other way round. (BTW he was a @sshole)
If I learned that green is green how would I ever know what green looks like to you. Maybe what I see as green, you see as brown but you learned that it was green.

Eish I hope you understand what I mean cos I'm not sure I do anymore

The way I see it is that some people has a hard time telling the difference between colours that are close to each other. Blue/green Red/brown etc...

Can someone please clear this up.

The most common colour blindness I understand is the mixing up of green and red. My uncle had this form of blindness and still managed to drive. At traffic lights he knew the top one was red and the bottom green. I am not sure whether he developed this through age or always had it. Remmember in the past you were never retested after you got your licence.

If red and green looks the same I can understand the problem.
But if green looks red and red looks green how the hell would you know what green is supposed to look like?

Then all green things would look red to you, but how would you know that it looks different to you than to me?
Maybe we all see colours different.

If this started to chance later on in life it can sure cause problems. But if this is how you have seen it all your life, how would you know the difference?

The more I try to explain it the stupiter(now my spelling is getting worse to) I sound. :?

I will use this the next time I skip a red light.

So if red is green, then why do bulls chase red, for grass?

Red always goes faster too. That is why they paint fire engines red - so they can get there first.

Yellow is the slowest colour - prooved by the speed at which the cops get there.

However Smiley's trike must be even faster than a fire engine and also has a sixth sense. Condsider that tow trucks are multi coloured and they are always there long before anyone - sometimes even before the accident.

I am colour blind for the brown/yellow range - when I did my medical I could not figure out those numbers on the machine, and did it with difficulty on the cards, and then I read that one should insist doing the test in full daylight (ie not in fluorescent light). Have not tried that yet. I suppose (for PPL anyway) the reason you cannot do night rating when colour blind is because of those red/green FASI ASI or whatever acronymn lights on approach. I used to have no trouble driving at night and then had my eyes "done" to get rid of the glasses. Since I have some trouble at night, but have adapted to this. I listen to my backseat drivester (-12 and -10 diopters, in her case) and do the opposite.

Toe vat hy een wat bruin en foos is.

You get differents kinds of coulor blindness. I have difficulty with light green and off white. Coulorblindness cannot be corrected, it is inhereted from your mother although in general woman are not colourblind only men.
