From AVCOM FYI
I was flying in the Pretoria GFA 1 this morning (02/02/2006 +- 06:30) i was doing stalls and spins with my instructor overhead freeway airstrip at 8500ft AMSL, We saw three microloights on freeway airstrip we called bout three or four times for the microlights to acknowledge our position but no reponse was recieved. Surely this is not right. Could not get any registrations.

3 sides to each story?

Don't know. Seems pretty stupid if they were standing (maybe having a piss?). Was hoping maybe someone on ML's.co.za was there. Know not many check the ML portion of Avcom so more for info before it (possibly) spirals out of control.
Seems odd that all 3 wold ignore radio calls unless their radio's were off?
Just as aside - Are radio's mandatory in GF?

Radio in a GF? GF=Uncontrolled airspace
From the book it states that you require a radio if over 1500' except for GFA's, where the frequency for TIBA is 124.4 except PE GF where the frequency is 124.2 .........
So yes, if I have interpreted correctly, looks like you have to have a radio in a GFA at any altitude.

Is it not possible that freeway airstrip has it's own local frequency?

There are no local frequencies inside a GFA... 124.4 everywhere, and for everyone, just to make sure there can be no confusion.

Nothing is simple. PE GFA freq is 124.2 So is possible to get confused

According to Easyplan, FAFW is outside Pretoria FAD 1 or did this guy intend to fall on the ML's
