ICASA radio license renewal

Good morning everyone. Just to say it plain, I'm ticked off with this money making story of ICASA and the radio license thing

I heard about the radio license last year November, or thereabout. So I paid the ridiculous fee of R380 and faxed the stuff back to the guys. After waiting about 3 months for my papers, decided to phone the idiot again at ICASA asking for my papers (because snail mail does not take 3months before delivered).
He (Icasa sales guy, cause that’s what they are) then stated that I still owe them R156 for the license papers. So what was the flippen R380 FOR? "No sir that was the application fee"- Get this correct, I had to pay them their administration cost for getting my details on their system. It takes them 3 minutes to type that stuff in and I have to pay for that. A law that they brought into action. So I paid the other R156 just for the license, which was never mention in the beginning of this whole story. I just wanted my certificate. "All you have to do is pay R380 and R48 per annum" OK.

This is the one part. Part two

I did get my radio license faxed to me after paying my R156. A week or so later phoned them again telling them that I have sold my Aerie and buying a new one, what is the fee to change my details from ZU-XXX to ZU-YYY? "No sir that will be R380 and R156 and R48 annually" What? So in order for me to get another license for the new aerie with exactly the same radio as the previous one, have to go through the whole rig-marole thing and pay another R500 odd bucks. Just too change my call sign from XXX to YYY. The rest of the details are the same. What happened to paying a nominal fee to get the latest details on your profile changed? What is also frustrating is that the old aeries license cannot be transferred to the new owner. He also has to pay R500 bucks. To me this sounds like a money making story. Up high there's a guy sitting and thinking what "law" they can bring in to generate money and subsidize a government institution. They dont pay money or maintenance for the frequencies, whey do we have to fork out R1000 when transferring ownerships of aeries? I will pay that amount for CAA because at least you can (in a sort of way) justify what you pay for and getting in return. But ICASA?

From today on, I have decided that everyone posting topics on this forum must pay me an amount, just because I think its a nice way of making money. Plus I will get CAA to enforce it. You can't get your ATF without proof of payment into my bank account (**)

If there are anyone on this forum that knows, or think they are taking me for a ride, feel free to post it

Went through the same. When I did not get a response I gave them 24 hours before taking the matter up with the minister of Telecommunications. Got my license within 4. Try that.

Triker, I hope you are talking about the licence for the actual physical radio itself? Not a new curved ball where one would have to renew the 'restricted licence' we got before we got our MPL? If it is for the certificate I received some time back...... (maybe I should not say anything).

Hi there MIlo

Dont stress. Not talking about the restricted radio license, but license for the hand held device itself from ICASA. puff

Remember something, if this is a new application they are going to look on the aircraft register and backcharge you for as long as you have owned that aircraft at R48 per year or part thereof. So if you have had it 5 years expect a bill of R240 over the initial R380 admin fee and R48 for the next year. Another thing is the application form is licencing the aviation radio station, i.e. the aircraft. if you sell and buy another aircraft and you take that radio with you still have to take out a new radio station licence at teh full amount or transfer it from the previous owner.

The invoice proving you have paid them is all you need in the aircraft for ramp inspections

Hi Guys

I just spoke to a lady at ICASA and got the banking details

Nedbank
Account: 1462002927
Branch: 14624500

Apparently I only have to pay R380 and then R48 per year. Nothing about the R156?

Seems like there are some double standards or lack of knowledge on the employee side of ICAASA

I got a renewal advice from ICASA in November last year. Paid my fees plus back charges and was then told that the previous owner still owes them some money for outstanding fees on the radio that was part of the aerie. Give them his contact details so that they can get the money from him. I even paid the new membership fees.
We are now in June and I'm still waiting for my license. I have spoken to everybody from the gardener to the tea girl and even tried the email route and guess what still no licence or a clear answer on what is going on.
So now I have given up and decided that my payment receipt will be all that I will show the powers to be with a ramp inspection

They were quick to jump on me for the payment but "O" boy don't expect them to be quick with the paper work. ##

Eish guys this is Efrica man.

Don't worry everything else that works will catch up to this same shit standard at some point.

Africa has a business model. It will wear you down until everyone accepts shit standard as the norm and nobody gives a shit.

If only all Gov departments had to run as a business and their increases and jobs were based on their profits. Instead they get promoted to a higher level of incompetence.........until one day you get a shower head attached to your pip.

If the CAA and the SABC told them to get stuffed and manage and collect their own income, they would implode. Probably the most useless sector of government service.
