Lekker Grobbie. After the clouds broke up the air was smooth...nice flying. The tops were at about 6500ft...beautiful. Rhodie enjoy you nav calculator...still hoping to get a safety inflatable life jacket before our Moz trip.

Fly Safe.

Had a nice flight yesterday afternoon. Fazel was also there.
Most probably over reacting again, but it seems that our radiator water which was light PINK, has now turned PURPLE. Can this mean anything? When water comes into contact with exhaust gas, it does change color. Do we need to worry? (**)

I spoke to Hans. He says we should not worry about the purple water. Its gets dirty after a while. Still very strange to me that one day its pink and the other day purple?

Lekker Steffanus. Glad to hear you are back in the air. I flew Sunday morning for an hour & a half. Was awsome. Mervyn opened a bottle of gift wine so, we, all the regulars, only left at 11. ## ## And, can you believe it, he had two, and went home with the second one.....well behaved hey... (!!)

No, does not sound right to me but I don't know how purple it is. Is it just dark pink? I use Castrol SF (Silicate Free) pre-mix and it is pink and stays pinkish until I change it, every 150 hrs/ 2 yrs.

If there was a leak between the engine and the cooling system the coolant level would drop. Either because the coolant is being sucked into the engine or because it is being pushed past the cap. If there is a leak past the rotary valve seal there will be water in the oil reservoir, milky coloured oil. (**)

If the coolant temperature remains within limits, 60 - 80 deg C, and the level is constant and correct, then it can not be serious. If you are at 150 hrs / 2 yrs then change it. It costs about R55 / litre (pre-mix) and you need 2 bottles. Car spares places sell it. (^^)

I am not sure when our coolant was renewed, I think after the rebuild? Bundy, how long has that coolant been in there? It cant be serious because like you sat Paul, there is no water escaping anywhere.

Thanks Paul,

Yes.... we also use the Castrol SF, the coolant was last flushed out and changed after the prang....coming up on 2 years now. I think I'd feel better just changing it. Done about 110 hrs.

I put a comment under Technical Talk with regards to the coolant. 35 views but no comments. Lets just change the coolant Bundy. Must we get Hans to do it or can we do it ourselves?

I'm sure we can cope, just need to know how much coolant it takes to re fill/bleed the system...will find out.

2.2 liters. I still have an unopened bottle. It is very simple to do.
