Recently bought a trike that last had an ATF in 2009. with great advice and assistance from Fred Brockland and RAASA I now have a valid ATF for it. My license expired a year ago and on top of that my pilot logbook was stolen . Again RAASA , and in particular Janine at RAASA , was very helpful and assisted me. I will be going for the flight test after the 23rd of this month and then I am up in the air again!

Although I never flew illegal I at one point though I will not fly again because of my expired silence and the long overdue ATF for the trike. However, when I started to tackle the problem I found that it was actually easy to rectify and had all sorted in a week. I am now bankrupt due to all the Aroclub, Misasa, RAASA, AP, CAA etc fees , but I am legal. Just and idea on the cost:

CAA R570.00
AEROCLUB R350.00
MISASA R390.00
RAASA R290.00
ICASA R140.00
Flight test R900.00
AP INSPECTION R600.00
ATF RENEWAL R200.00
LISENCE RENEWAL R290.00
Total R3,730.00
Thanks for posting this Boomerang, it's very useful for those who have let their flying lapse....alles sommer net so in een maand kan definitief jou n bietjie "platsak" maak!

Good to hear you are getting back into the game. (^^)

We can consider ourselves lucky we don't have to go through an AMO....I know some who wont even check the tyre pressure for that amount. ^
Glad to hear RAASA was so helpful....its that kind of attitude I'm talking about! (^^)

Total R16,730.00

or an amount of R1394.17 per month WITHOUT flying for 1 minute!
This is what will kill me in the end. It is simply too much.

There is no insurance etc. yet... I can take my car modify it as much as I like, bigger wheels, bigger engines, lift kits, lowering kits, radios that blows your ears to bits and that is when you are in another car, (just look in any one of the motoring magazines to see the amount of accessories available) then get onto a busy freeway and attempt to kill every person on the road. I can even do this while as drunk as a skunk and chances are that nothing will ever come from it. I have personally seen this very scenario more than a few times, so it is not as unlikely as you might think. No one blinks.

We are overregulating ourselves to death. If I want to take 4 addis garbage bags fashion them into a parachute and jump off the roof, that should be my indaba. As long as I do not interfere with the safety of others, etc etc etc. Imagine how irresponsible the first guy who flew a trike must have been.......what an outlaw.

In my humble, worth nothing, opinion the experimental class has been raped to become a "semi type certified"

Funny thing is the very thing that is suppose to keep us safe (regulation) is costing so much that I cannot fly as much as I should. So now I fly less making me unsafe due to experience....
Just my 2c and now I have to run.............. (-)

Hi All,

Just want to give RAASA props here...

Had to get my renewal and type conversion done, been while since I had last flown, took 1 hour and all was signed sealed and delivered. Thank you Raasa, great service that I do not mind paying for... (^^) (^^) (^^)

I am legal now again and will take to the skies soon.

Did my flight test this morning and after more then a year I'm legal again. Although I never flew illegal (as I had no plane vhpy ) it was not such a huge issue. As per my previous post, I manage to get an ATF for my trike (that last had a an ATF in 209 ) and got my silence renewed. It was a bit expensive, but not so difficult at all.

I would urge all of the guys who do fly illegal or just want to get legal again to do it. It is not really the mountain I thought it would be. There are plenty people who are more then willing to assist . Mary Stephens at CAA that gave me advice on replacing my lost Pilots logbook, Janine at RAASA that made the copies etc. and mailed it to me as well as advised me on what to do and Fred Brockland who did the AP as well as my flight test.

It was a couple of phone calls and I was pleasantly surprised on how willing all was to assist. I am much poorer now...but my arse is in the air again!!!!

Hi,

Renewed my license in September, immediately send the docs via Speed Services courier and has been at the Midrand post office since 16 September... RAASA said that they post office is not opening their doors so that Postnet can collect the post...!!

I am living in the Western Cape and had to make use of a postal service to get the docs at RAASA. Will I be flying illegally if I have copies of the flight test and renewal documents with all the proof of payments in the aircraft with me?

I am not in the country at the moment but want to start flying soon when I get home!!

(Anyone maybe have connections at Midrand Post Office to get my documents out of the office?)

Jacques

NOTE: I will NEVER EVER use the post office again even if a courier is way more costly!! The post office has now proven its unreliability and it is affecting all of us... I just hope that RAASA and CAA will also use couriers instead of post office...
