Thanks to my mates for the many calls and messages. Trauma is a k@k thing and brings out some ugly emotions.

For those who don't want to sieve through 24 pages, Here's a copy of what was posted on Avcom.

"As a member of the Secunda flying Committee who organised and hosted the event but not directly responsible for the safety and security portfolio I would like to share my personal thoughts and respond to some comments.

Firstly condolences to Glen’s family, close friends and the many witnesses just 500 metres away, fellow flying club marshal mates, volunteering wives and kids, all the officials who were interacting, re-fuelling, catering and then fellow aviators and public here and elsewhere, dealing with this trauma and demanding answers and explanations.

The airshow was hosted to commemorate the upgrading of our airfield, provide opportunities to our charities and share the aviation experience with the public. We received sponsorship for the infrastructure of the show so the gate money was collected by volunteers for charity as well as vendor fees who were not charities.

The Flying club stood to benefit only from the beer garden sales as well as V.I.P suites to sustain on going airfield expenses.Visitors can attest to the infrastructure we had in place so to suggest that services were compromised for profit is ludicrous.

The process of applying, qualifying and compliance to host the airshow was done to conformance.

Safety meetings hosted by appointed officials amongst the relevant service providers, organisers and safety officers were held as well as pilot briefings and no short coming to my knowledge were identified.

Competent authorities have and continue investigating which should explain the outcome as well as identify shortcomings to plan or manage against this happen again.

I think that there’s a distinction between someone sharing an opinion on events and reporting as if these facts are to be accepted on face value but expect this to be clarified in the outcome or in due course.

Leon, I sympathise a great deal with you and the many organisers at Secunda FC. :(

People are always quick to judge and point fingers in the aftermath of a tragedy, it is unfortunate but natural reaction.

I know how much effort it takes and the mountains of applications and beurocracy needed just to host such an event. In time... once the emotions of it all have settled we can take in the lessons and try our best to learn from this and others.

Airshows are always a balance between what is deemed necessary from a safety perspective and what is practically and financially achievable to reduce the risk as much as possible...it will never cater for every conceivable eventuality I'm afraid.

I know you are all going through a difficult time...strongs to you all. (-)
