I don't know about earlier model, but it is the Super Koala from Fisher Products. Actually, in SA, the nosewheel version is officially known as a Gazelle.
BTW, Fisher had an arrangement with Ted Phelps here in SA to have the Koalas built here and shipped back to the States for resale. Cheap labour an' all made it viable, not to mention a monetary grant from the old Government.

Every 2 seater I know of here on the Reef has a 532, 582, VW (unsuccessfully) and/or BMW motor in. Aerosan has a 618 in his. I have a 582 in mine. The same plane apparently flies quite happily at the coast with a 503. The single seater at our field has a 503.

Oh, by the way, 99.5% wood construction with Ceconite covering. It's actually a great big model aeroplane :D

Virtually bullet proof too

Hey Griffin

Why doesn't your friend look at trikes? I know its pretty windy in your neck of the woods, but we fly here in plenty of wind as well.

Tell him to talk to Zirk / Johan Froneman. I hear they train in plenty of wind. Had one of their students fly here the other day. The first "non-local" low-hour pilot who managed to fly in the wind properly without some major dual time.

And although the trike-market world-wide is still pretty solid, South Africa's trike market is a bit down at the moment (most definately only temporarily) and you can find some great trikes well within the 50-100k range. (some even below)

I will have to put my flame-suit on( I think), but I still believe that for the love of flying, nothing beats a trike. Conventional control microlights are great for transport, and probably a litte more weather-proof, but for ease of flying and view, a trike is best.

Morp, anything between 50K - 100K. Most likely around 75K for REALLY GOOD one :D

I think there still is one for sale at Middelburg (Gauteng) for around 60K :?:

Thanks Duck,

whats the performance like?

Do you have pics of the interior. I am looking for a 2-seater side by side that can take 2 adults, fuel and 20kg luggage. The fisher site limits their MAUW to 830 lb (375Kg) not much actually.

That's a load of bull! They also say it flies on a 28hp motor  More bull.

2 Adults, 20kg luggage and fuel (main tanks only, not additional tanks behind the seats) is done without a sweat even on a hot day here by us :D

With a 582 at sealevel it will be like on steroids

I have pictures of my interior somewhere here on my PC. Will look. If I don't find it I will take some tomorrow because I had planned to take pics anyway :D

Morph ,
mine is modified slightly where the back has been cut to look more like a 152. Because of this I now have a BIG shelf behind me where 20 kgs will happily rest without moveing the c of g too much. When I had the guy here to do the certificate we had a look and it was still in spec. Incedently I asked about 20 kgs, so that is why I know. If Duck will put a pic of amapathcypatchy as his avitar or in his sig. like you then you can compare and see. What Duck says about the weight, is true, just believe him :!:

Hi,

Friday morning I was at Rhino Park, trying unsuccessfully to locate the Agent. It was a bit sad to see so many probably abandoned aerrys rotting in the hangars :( . I could imagine the same happening at many other airfields. If I was looking for a cheap aerry, thats where I would be looking. Write down regs, and locate owners, and make an offer.

Regards,

Arnulf
