Hi
I need some advice please.
Can someone give me some advice on basic ADSL packages and prices please. We want to get our parents on-line but we don't know who the service providers are and what the deals look like (Yes they are in RSA).
Any advice would be welcomed.
Any computer salesman out there? I need a basic computer (Will be used mainly for e-mail) for a reasonable price. Preferably LCD monitor.
Thanks
Cali

Re: ADSL Deals
I don't bother with ANY contracts
I use Telkom purely for line rental. My neighbour is being ripped off.
Go for PREPAID options from other ISP's.
Why prepaid is better, sometimes you hardly use the internet YET you have to pay a monthly installment...
With prepaid you can buy say 3GB for R210 and if thats all you use that year or two...thats ALL you pay. I've also noticed that PREPAID prices are VERY competitive to contracts and sometimes much cheaper. I bought 3GB for my mom...more than a year later she has 200MB left. For me it's around 1-3GB per month - but I score.
Also as time goes on, you aren't STUCK in a contract and prices come down.
I use SAOL.com and pay around R69 per GIG. PREPAID. They're in Durban but my speed ROCKS.
I also use Webafrica and I like that throught out the WHOLE process I didn't sign one thing. All online and took 5 mins to get an account. Also prepaid option and R70 per GIG
With both the above options topping up is 2 mins and you don't have to call anyone. Love it. Topping up at 2am is easy.
There's also
OPENWEB, but I wasn't happy with the shaped speeds at all and it was VERY slow, as compensation for bad service they did give me an UNCAPPED account for the month - I didn't use it. Maybe they good for you, my one mate ONLY uses them.

Re: ADSL Deals
The only benefit to signing a contract is the free modem, If you are prepared to buy that outright Dieselfan has hit the nail on the head.
If you are interested i the contract option, Nashua Mobile is very competitive and data is unshaped as well a a free 4Gb mailbox with all the anti spam and extras.

Re: ADSL Deals
Cheapest option I have found so far is axxess.co.za R59 per 1 GB.
Also offer a prepaid option where no expiry of the gig (well for 2 years at least) for only R10 more at R69.
I use the standard gig account and keep a prepaid account for those months I break my cap and too close to month end to justify the top up.
