Short Outing: Loskopdam / Groblersdal - Photos and Movies

Postby RudiGreyling » Wed Jan 02, 2008 1:43 pm

So what to do when everyone is on leave during the Holiday Season? You and some good friends do a short outing to Loskopdam and Groblersdal area.

This area is beautiful after all the rain. The area from Loskopdam North to Groblersdal is stunning, with 3 dams in the area, lots of beautiful rivers, valleys etc very close to JHB.

MOVIES:

Ok Disclaimer first:
We are NO wooligans, and thoroughly enjoy our flying, but are very serious about safety, with many hours under the belt. These movies only depict a narrow view of what is going on! You can't see beyond the lens view and your depth perception is also wrong. Any BAD comments about the flying and or the movies and they will be taken off...OK! I will not divulge any names, just enjoy it for what they are worth, PURE microlighting FUN!

The movies are big [+/- 30MB] for quality reasons, best viewed widescreen on your DVD player, just cut them to a DVD and play them on a wmv dvd player.

Thanks guys,

Sorry about the broken file...Someone said I should rather write it as DIVX there are more DVD players that support that and the quality is better. Give me a day or so to see if I can figure out how to do that and then I will RELOAD the files.

Sorry be patient.

There are actually 7 different parts the this trip, I just gave yo guys the highlights, part 6 and 7. The other parts 1-5 is the actual trip there, flying through the valleys enroute etc etc.

If you want a DVD of my 'amateur footage' of all 7 parts PM me I'll post it to you if you cover my expenses.

Hi Rudi

Bly julle ouens het die tydjie hier in ons Vallei geniet.
Jammer dat al die Marble Hallers en Groblersdallers met
vakansie was toe julle ons besoek het.

Maak weer so en ons is gereed by FAGL met 'n lekker ontbyt.

Groete

OK, I fixed groblersdal_7.wmv you guys can try and download it again...it is worth it! The portion playing along the edge of the clouds and the Halo on top is GOOD.

I tried to convert to DIVX but the files are larger  and it does not want to use the widescreen format in which I shot it, so it will stay .wmv for the PC download.

Hi Elize,

Dankie vir al jou moeite en raad.
Carpe Diem was nie 'n oeps nie, net anders as Raasblaar, meer "hotel" agtig.

Groete

Rudi,

Very nice....

May I be 'voor op die wa' and ask what camera you used to make the clips. I thought I was clever and bought myself a Sony camera featuring 'new' technology for xmas (ie. from dad to dad). The camera has the latest 'hard' disk and other fancy features, BUT........ it does not work on my trike

Due to the safety measures on the hard disk the vibration of the 582 is too much causing the camera to record onto the 'buffer' resulting in a buffer overflow and the camera swithces off. I tried all various settings to no avail. Even having the pax hold the camera by hand has yielded no success.

I am thus hoping that maybe someone else has had similar problems and managed to resolve them or I should get myself some older technology (ie. tapes) to try my hand at becoming a movie producer..... :o
Caught a dream............

Hi IceAge,

I use a Canon Elura 90, that uses the small digital tapes, can shoot widescreen, and I use a wide angle lense on top of that to get the most angle and view to appreciate trike flying.

This time around I fitted in my hand, not on trike. My new trike has a pod, with a little pockets to store goodies & camere inside the pod, if I see action I take out the camera put it in hand and shoot, and then back into pocket when done.

In hand It is still a bit shaky as evidence of the movie will show.. I ordered a new RAM mounts from overseas. The best place I have found is on the Trapeze control bar of the wing just to the right of my right hand.

If I had to buy a camera now, I would get something that can shoot HD 1080p (High Definition 1080 vertical pixels, Progressive), And something with a very very good anti shake performance.

Pitty about the Hard disk Performance, will look out for that next time I buy.

Kind Regards
Rudi
