Coming soon to an airfield FAR from you..

Postby Asterix » Tue Nov 27, 2012 7:12 pm

The first purpose built three-trike hangar on Pietersburg civils.

Also designed to take The Yellow Cobra and the LSA that I will be acquiring, a loooong time from now!

Meantime - there is a sad looking R 44 or 22 (don't know) sitting on the apron @ PBurg: - this hangar will also be able to accomodate the exposed whirlybird. At a price, of course. :wink: (And based on the understanding that when my chommas visit - we push the Robbie OUT!) ##

(The owner of aforesaid Robbie is welcome to contact me..)

Construction starts 14 January, subject to approval from the club. 8 weeks.

So Dudes - one of these days, you will be able to add Asterix as a place where you can land (with one HELL of a long tarstrip, with landing lights - for the benefit of the Chain Gang :roll: ) hangar safely,( The Limpopo SAPS Airwing is stationed just over the apron from where I hope to build,) and enjoy some Anarchist Hospitality! (^^) (Whether that be in the hangar, and /or the larney clubhouse 100 metres away, and/or my house.) Ten minute drive from my house to the airfield. Nearest fuel station walking distance on the Burgersfort road.. not that you would have to walk. In my absence, there is one hell of a good guy and his sidekick living here, that will come and help you at the drop of a penny: Leon, and Anton! (^^) (!!)

(When I brought my Cobra up and landed destitute on Potties a few months back, ONE phone call saw Anton doing the 150 km roundtrip to collect me and deliver me to my frontdoor - on a SUNDAY MORNING! (^^)

Plans is with the construction company - but it is easy to draw a mental picture:

12 metres wide;

9 metres deep;

5 metres high at the apex, and 4 metres high at the sides.

Full cladding on all sides with two sliding doors at the front.

Paving inside. ( And I am gonna buy tubes and tubes of those expanding skuim to seal every nook and cranny against dust.

Later on, once I recover from the bankruptcy incurred between this project and the TRO, I am gonna buy an old but decent small sized caravan, renovate her, and "install" her in the right / left front corner. Flight office / bar / overnight facilities for "The Lost Trike Pilot", or just a place to kip the night before a long X country. I feel like a child with a new toy!! vhpy vhpy

(What is hair raising is that this kind of construction costs DOUBLE now than a few years ago. :shock: Ask Nicow.)

Dudes - a large part of this project is funded by the selling of "Geel Kerneels". Those who know me well will understand that selling him was like loosing a family member. :cry:
However, he will live on in my memories as I and any visiting Triker shelter inside this hangar from the Deadly Skies.

In the light of this - I would like to NAME my hangar in honour of Geel Kerneels. (**) :lol: (^^)

Any suggestions on an appropriate name? (**) ( The winner gets a beer on the house! (^^) )

I'm sure you've checked your door height.

I have a 'swing door' in the centre to accomodate the king post and with a 10m by 14 m its not easy fitting more than one Lsa and a trike or just 3 trikes without serious manourvering and in your absence, a risk of some hangar rash.

Buying a Cessna Caravan for this purpose is a bit over the top chom, it will also definately not fit in the one corner! :lol:
