Scottbourough airfield

Postby RV4ker (RIP) » Mon Apr 24, 2006 9:03 am

Anyone got any contact details for this field on the road between Scottbourough and Pennington? I am going down to South Coast in June and would like to take RV down there for some coastal "patrols", but FAVG and FAMG are too far from Selborne where we are chasing the little white ball....

Any help greatly appreciated. Need the info in a hurry. ACE?
Thanks in advance.

Our guys landed there on the last fly-away to the South Coast, but it was a once off favour from the Radio-model club.

The airfield is strictly private and may only be landed on in an emergency. Tall trees on one side may also make it quite tricky.

There were three pilots who flew from there, two of them were killed in accidents   . One gyro and one microlight. It seems that the land owner does not want anyone there anymore.

The map also shows a small airfield at Pennington, but it does not exist. (although you could probably get a couple of people together and revive it - just not in time for your visit)

Durban international is not very busy, and you could land there. Its not far to Pennington, and although you are going to pay an arm and a lef for apron fees, its quite fun :D

Sorry, I have no further info since we last communicated on this some months ago. Some of the posts this morning seem to make this place a "no-go"

You land at the Scottborough strip at your own risk. I believe the land-owner can be very difficult and actually doesn't want anyone using the strip !!!

Sounds like the owner has told you to sod off?

Have you spoken to him, or you giving up with all the bad news around?

Spoken to the powers that be and the Answer is NO :? No discussion. Couple exceptions (2 - Tiger Moth and a Chippie) for the locals who know the strip, but other than emergency - NO. Maybe time for the trike pilot beach landing engine faulire switch

Pity as the strip condition is not as bad as they make it out to be.

Seems to be huge fear of indemnity if you prang and IMHO they do not understand the legal side... (Fear of shlepp factor if something goes wrong, thus seems they work on the basis of no visiting planes no problems..)

Thanks to all for the help....

Just for info purposes

Lance Poydon operates a couple aeries out of there and maintains the strip, but has no say over ops.
039 976 1248 (Bus)
083 293 2426 (Cel)

Dusty is the Farm manager who would have to give permission.
039 978 1022

Land (farm) owners are not willing to discuss it. Dusty has the final say and he is not willing to accept liability if he "clears" you to land there even if you sign indemnity....

PS
Must say all were very aplolgetic about it, so seems there are some underlying issues..... Maybe planes gone down in past and they landed in the K@K :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: (Given his situation I would possibly have same attitude....)
