Dropping in on Dieselfan and the love of his life.

Postby Fairy Flycatcher » Fri Apr 14, 2006 5:07 pm

Dieselfan proposed to his loved one in the most unusual way. A lot of though and care went into it, and it could only point to great things to come. Good luck.

The story:

Dieselfan contacted me quite a while ago to tow a banner, so that he could propose to his lovely lady.

The R&D was going a bit slowly though, and I was worried that we were going to miss the deadline (13 April). So after loads of discussing this way and that, we hatched the following plan.

I would take a skydiver on a microlight, circle over where he and his beloved are having a romantic picnic on the beach, and then climb to 3000', where the skydiver will jump out, with the ring, and present it to them on the beach.

Unique, spectacular and no chance of a "No"

The plan was initially approved by the Authorities, but yesterday at 13:30, we received a fax, saying that the airspace will be too busy, and approval has been withdrawn.  I immediately start to phone, but everyone left CAA for the long weekend   . My skygod used all his contacts, including the private cell number of the commissioner, (and about 2hrs on the cellphone) to have it approved again, and we finally received approval at 15:45 (30min before I was due to take off for the jump at 16:30) A CAA official, Ronnie, stayed late, worked his but off, got hold of the schools at Virginia, of CAMU (Central airspace management unit), and managed to get it all approved in the nick of time. =D*

We managed to pull the whole thing off, and even have a video, taken by the skydiver, to prove that Dieselfan is now officially engaged to a beautiful and quite petit woman.

Congrats
=D*

Well done and congrats Dieselfan...

FF, I'm impressed...most folk would have been tempted to ignore the second fax, do the event and claim they were out the office and only saw it after the event......

But seeing as you folks are setting such a good high standard, well done!!!!

I hope that you enlightened Diesalfan that the skyjump bit and ring are probably the cheapest part of his relationship....The expensive bits are still to come.....

Thanks all!! I would like to also thank FF and SG for their TREMENDOUS help and if it weren't for them I'd still be single :?.

To show how well they had organised it, I was unaware of the CAA issue!

Not only was my GF - now Fiancé VERY surprised and unsuspecting, she also thought it was very romantic.

I had to drop the ring off at La Mercy and my GF couldn't understand why we had to detour after driving 600km!? I said I was doing a favour for Big D (Thanks  ) and had to drop off some package...

It was a mission getting her to the exact agreed beach and location as she couldn't understand why we had drive 20 mins when we were staying on the beach at Shakas rock :? , walk along an already quiet beach for almost 400m and picnic where no one else can see us?

Within minutes ZU-CIF flew overhead and waved. My GF suspected NOTHING 8) and even passed a comment. "Is this why we came, to see microlights?".

Image

Needless to say once the engine was cut, out came the skydiver and me saying "Check babes a skydiver!". From then on it all happened very quickly. My GF couldn't understand why the skydiver flew so low over our heads when he had a whole beach :D, plus to top it off where did the people with cameras come from (SG and family)??? They were also not taking pics of the skydiver, but instead of us?? Her brain was overloaded. Only when a box was produced by the man with a space helmet did she know what was happening.

Image

Needless to say I probably made a fool of myself on camera - but who cares, she said YES and thought it was PERFECT.

Thanks again Fairy Flycatcher and SkyGod!!!

Anyone else need ideas/help? Don't hessitate to contact LaMercy's leading Wedding Proposal experts!

PS I will try to upload more pics once the lady has approved...
