Don't worry what they think.

I took a husband and wife flying in my trike (seperate occasions clearly). They are both over 10 000 hour commercial pilots.

I battled to get the bar back from them and their view was this this is real flying. (^^)

Unfortunately some PPL's that have no trike experience have unsubstantiated views.

My Dad flew Blikkies for many years a lot over the Kalahari as well as 3 axis on our farm Makokskraal. He always used to say The best Fying is by the seat of your pants and thats exactly what I get in my old 503 with the minimum of instruments.

I fly my baby with NO instruments. It is the best and most stimulating experiance you can ever think of having - relying totally only on your senses and the FEEL of the aircraft.

Now that is realy flying. Most of the Blik pilots are Glorified Bus drivers in any case  so no worries.

I think Trikes are the closest you can get to true powered flight known to man. ($$) ($$) ($$)

I flew into pilansberg once in the bantam, Gaylord with me in the GT 450. We were fueling up, all 80 litres between us when the captain of an Embrauer business jet (parked next to us) walked out and said something along the lines of "Fornicate!!! i wish i could fly like you okes fly") - he was routing back to botswana with his super wealthy boss, when all he wanted to do was fly lekker low and slow with us...

let em think what they want bru...

Thats no lie the other thing is if you do something you like you enjoy it. If you have to do it, it then becomes a different story!!

We are flying!!!

To me this is what counts. Don't matter if it's a Boeing, Cessna or a Paraglider. I don't care what it is. The point is you're flying. If you are in the sky you are flying...........

Flying is what unites us. As a whole recreational flying in SA is in too much danger of becoming extinct for us to be distinguishing amongst ourselves.

Anyway Wingover.

I know a lot of so called "blik" pilots that fly lap & pyp... but note this is not reserved to weight shift! You will be quite surprised how of the chaps on this forum are actually PPL'ers or "blik" pilots.... It is all a matter of perception... miskien is jy 'n bietjie selfbewus?

Come let me tell you... those chaps gawking at you are actually so flipping jealous and many reasons spring to mind:

Adventure Cost Fun Cost of ownership Specific skill Fun Passion The lack of need for a "Ray Ban" Fun Cost Passion Adventure Freedom of flight (within reason) an ARO that looks after their interests Adventure Passion Cost ...... and I'll carry on repeating a couple of them over and over! vhpy

I fly my lap & pyp Cheetah... it's mine, paid for and proud of it. I can go almost anywhere, handle cross winds 10kts more than they can and I am a PPL'er but still proud of ALL the aircraft types I fly and can fly..... the importance to me - I CAN FLY & ENJOY IT! (^^)

So... hold your head up high... know what you know and know what they are missing out on! (^^)

Back in 1997 when i done my taidragger conversion on a Bushbaby at Fisantekraal, a PPL stood next to me making the remark " Julle microlight pilots weet ook maar min van regtig vlieg." That was just the que i was waiting for and promptly replied : " Nou maar gaan vlieg vir ons daai Bushbaby tailie." Needless to say with much muttered excuses he trundled off , back to his " Spam can " flying   Take that ## ## from a "Lap en Pyp" microlight pilot .....nogal

It is sad when this happens but it does!

I was sitting at a local airfield recently having breakfast when a few hotshot "blik" pilots arrived, note that they did not join overhead but joined by beating up the field. They parked next to my "lap en pyp", blowing the whole place full of dust and strolled over for breakfast hardly greeting.

Anyway a while later 2 x 3 axis microlights, same tipe, joined overhead before flying decent circuits and landing. As they joined overhead one of the blik pilots made a loud comment about the "dangerous" planes that joined overhead. I could not resist and asked him if he has ever flown the tipe or knew that they have a perfect, no fatality, record worldwide (I used to own one so knew). Him and his buddies gave me a dirty look and then continued making snide comments about waiting for the planes to crash! That got me completely mad so I gave them a piece of my mind before leaving

I don't care what a guy flies, or what his plane is made of, if he flies he is one of us! I love flying my "lap en pyp", and my "glas en plastiek" and my "hout" and well as my homebuild "blik" (^^)

Fly safe, whatever you fly,
Rudi

Jaa swaer. The skill of a pilot is not measured by WHAT a pilot fly, but in how well he fly with what he fly! You can insult my car, my dog, house, maar my bleddie vliegtuig los jy UIT ! I do not refer to your tin can as an oil dripping-paint-flaking kerosene / avgas-stinking oil dripping piece of crap. So leave mine alone and sharpen up your airmanship....... or the total lack thereoff. Niks maak my so totaal de bliksem in soos n vark wat my vliegtuig vol stof blaas nie. Al is dit dan n lap en pyp "ding" ??

vhpy
Toe vra hy my wat se aerie vlieg ek...
The moral of the storey is: .....
ONS TRIKE-MANNE STAAN UIT !!!!!! (!!) (!!)
Ek praat jou thaal...
